Personally, I`ll be stunned if they don`t. I imagine they`ll use Freeze as a punching bag for all they`re worth. Don`t know how much good it`ll do, though.
Personally I believe the OM program has exceeded the tipping point. I can't think of a way out of this mess, short of falling on their sword. Blaming it all on Freeze want help, there are other coaches to share the blame...The AD shares the blame, the President of the University must also share the blame, And... Big money boosters also share the blame. Everybody must take a bite of the sandwich, because they covered for Freeze and his coaches. When OM went ALL IN to protect the program, they more or less sealed their own fate. IMO: The wheels have already come off their Clown Car and we are witnesses to the big crash... I'll make popcorn.

I don't see Freeze getting a show cause for this, so he will keep his mouth shut to protect himself and his future earnings. The NCAA doesn't have a smoking gun showing that Freeze was directly involved in any of this, and they can't prove that he is lying about any of this. That is what the NCAA has required in the past to play that card. So, as things stand now, the Freeze firing will not impact the NCAA findings nor will it change how Ole Miss responds.

I was under the impression Freeze did not have to be directly involved in this. Turning his head and looking the other way is (I thought) LOIC. I guess I will find out when St. Hugh is HC at S. Mississippi next year.

The NCAA doesn't require anything to do anything. NCAA enforcement can do whatever they want whenever they want, even if it includes violating their own bylaws.

And, judging by the past, they have no problems throwing around show-cause labels with little to no actual evidence.

In fact, we personally know of two assistant coaches who were slapped with show-cause labels who subsequently sued the NCAA for defamation and won tens of millions of dollars over it.

Some people prefer to bring their own rope.
OMG, "hold the rope" comes to mind and was the beginning of his downfall also. I used to wish Bama could play him at least once more.

Think of the fun we could have with Miles, Kiffen and Dooley back in the SEC. We already have the Muschamp fun when S Carolina plays Florida and Bama. Imagine Dooley, Kiffin or Miles at Ole Miss or Missouri. It would high drama just about every week.

Just rambled around on one of the Ole Miss boards and there is a thread of who they want for the next HC. Chip Kelly, Bob Stoops and etc. One reply was: "Like when Hugh Freeze was hired? Big name. Hahaha."

When was the last Big Name Ole Miss hired? Houston Nutt? Since Vaught they have had Kinard, Cooper, Sloan, Dunn, Tuberville, Cutcliffe, Oregeron, Nutt. Not exactly an A-list.

Poor choice of words, but the fact remains that there is no smoking gun pointing to Freeze's direct involvement, and no head coach has been given a show cause without that. It isn't going to happen.

I think Les Miles to Ole Miss is a pipe dream and Ole Miss is doing the most smoking.

I think he's playing "interest" (knowing he won't take the job) to boost his market value. Let's face it: how many coaches out there in the market have run successful programs long-term at the highest level? (Even if the argument is, "But he won his national title with Saban's players," he still won an SEC long after Saban was in Tuscaloosa).

Why would he go to Oxford when there will be bigger paying jobs for teams NOT on probation after this year in other places - most probably Notre Dame and Texas A/M or possibly even Auburn?

He HAS to say he's interested or he lowers his own value.

I don't buy Miles to Ole Miss for even a nanosecond.

Not trying to change the subject but the first thing that popped into my mind when I read about former CHF
and the phone call(s) was the the talk of "big cat weekend" featuring escorts and "friendly hostesses."
CHF started at OM about the same time the barn started up the "big cat weekends".

I'm guessing, but I think the escorts were for recruits because that's what he thought everyone does to get the 5* to sign.
Again, the "pattern of behavior" referenced last week suggests more than just one phone call. Whether for recruits or himself, that wasn't his first time.

Also, Big Cat Weekend started in 2010, so a few years before he got to Oxford.

I expect him to get one solely based on the NCAA's new push to make the head coach more responsible for things that happen with the staff to prevent a defense similar to what Ole Miss had prior to last week - "You see... He didn't know what these few rogue assistants were doing. He runs everything by compliance and keeps the program very compliant with your rules. It's just these silly assistants!"

So now it is being reported that Nutt's attorney is requesting access to AD Bjork's email and phone records under FOIA.

Stay tuned. Ross could be asking Hugh for resume' writing tips.

That's why people don't need to hire smart-dumb coaches. They always try to find a sure fire way to cover their butt if things start rolling down hill. Don't y'all find it a little odd that Arkansas has been very quiet about Nutt ever since they allowed him to retain his job in 2007.

North Carolina slated for August hearing in NCAA case

http://www.espn.com/college-sports/...s-scheduled-august-hearing-ncaa-academic-case

RALEIGH, N.C. -- North Carolina is scheduled to appear before an NCAA infractions committee panel next month in its multiyear and oft-delayed academic case.

Responding to records requests, UNC on Tuesday released a June 9 letter from the NCAA setting Aug. 16-17 for the hearing in Nashville, Tennessee. The letter requests that men's basketball coach Roy Williams, football coach Larry Fedora and women's basketball coach Sylvia Hatchell attend.

Williams and Fedora aren't charged with violations -- Fedora wasn't working at UNC during the time in question -- but their programs are referenced in a broader improper benefits charge. Hatchell isn't charged either, but a former professor and academic counselor for women's basketball is cited for providing improper assistance on assignments.

And looky here: It seems the NCAA is making the correct case that it does have some say-so in academic matters.

UNC has previously challenged the NCAA's jurisdiction, saying it was an academic matter and not an athletic one. But the NCAA's July 17 filing stands firm that it has jurisdiction and that athletes received extra benefits through special access to the courses.

"The issues at the heart of this case are clearly the NCAA's business," the document states, adding later: "In sum, it is an NCAA matter when other member schools who choose not to provide impermissible benefits are disadvantaged by their commitment to compliance."

And somewhere, Phil Fulmer, Roy Kramer and Tee Martin are about to wet themselves giggling.
