The annual Georgia-Florida football game in Jacksonville will be extended five years through the 2021 game under a term sheet signed by athletic directors at both schools.
The document was obtained by the Athens Banner-Herald Tuesday under an open records request. UGA athletic director Greg McGarity signed the document on Monday.
The City of Jacksonville will draw up a long-form contract to be executed by the schools and the city by April 15, according to the term sheet. The current contract for the game at EverBank Field runs through the 2016 game.
Even though the new deal would be five years--not seven as a previous unsigned term sheet stated--the schools agree to begin talks on a contract extension after the 2018 game.
SicEmDawgs.com also obtained the term sheet and reported on it on Tuesday.
Each team would get $250,000 per game starting with the 2017 game and a $125,000 signing bonus for $2,016.
Jacksonville is responsible for creating “a customized seating solution if any club seats are removed for stadium club seat renovations,” and schools will review and approve such renovations.
McGarity said recently that Georgia nets about $2.4 million from the Jacksonville game or about $5 million every two years. That’s about $2 million more than Georgia would get for a home-and-home series with Florida.
