The Tide freshman finished his week with a double and a pair of home runs to lead Alabama in total bases

BIRMINGHAM, AL - Alabama outfielder Chandler Taylor was named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. The award marks the first in-season conference honor the Crimson Tide has collected in 2016.
Taylor wrapped up his week with four hits, three of which were for extra bases including one double and his team-leading third and fourth home runs of the season. The Montgomery, Ala., native contributed a team-high 11 total bases for the week and led the Crimson Tide in slugging percentage at .733.
He began his week drawing two walks at Southern Miss on Tuesday before the Tide traveled to Baton Rouge to take on the seventh-ranked LSU Tigers. In his first Southeastern Conference series, Taylor collected a hit in each game and four total. In Saturday's doubleheader, Taylor batted .333 (3-9) with a double, home run, two RBI and one run scored to help the Crimson Tide earn its first series win in Baton Rouge since 1996.
Taylor notched a two-run home run in the ninth inning of Saturday's first game of the doubleheader, putting the game out of reach as the Tide blanked the Tigers, 6-0. The shutout win was Alabama's first shutout of the Tigers since May 14, 2000. On Sunday, Taylor homered once again, extending his team lead to four homers on the young season.
The freshman has been one of the key cogs in the Alabama offense thus far. He leads the Crimson Tide in homers, total bases (32) and walks (9), while tying for second on the team in hits (17) and runs scored (10).
