May 16, 2016

TUSCALOOSA, AL
- Alabama returns home to Sewell-Thomas Stadium for its final non-conference matchup of the regular season, hosting Samford for a Tuesday midweek contest. The single game is part of a four-game homestand for the Tide as the 2016 schedule of regular-season games comes to a close. The Crimson Tide and Bulldogs are set for a 6:30 p.m. CT first pitch on Tuesday evening. The game will air live on SECN+.

LEADING OFF

Samford is coming off a week in which the Bulldogs went a perfect 4-0 overall. The week began with a 3-1 win over in-state foe UAB last Tuesday evening before Samford swept The Citadel in Charleston this past weekend.
Alabama and Samford will meet for the 103rd time in a series that dates back to 1894, when Samford was still known as Howard College. The Crimson Tide owns the all-time advantage in the series, 89-13, including a 72-7 mark in Tuscaloosa. The two teams met earlier this season in Birmingham on April 26, with the Bulldogs claiming the 3-2 walkoff win to snap a nine-game winning streak the Tide had built entering the contest. Alabama has won four straight home contests against Samford dating back to 2012.

The Crimson Tide will call on freshman right-hander Brock Love for his fourth start of the season and 11th appearance overall. As a starter, Love owns a 2.25 ERA (3 ER/12.0 IP) with 14 strikeouts compared to only three walks. He last started on April 26 at Samford, allowing one earned run on four hits and a walk with one strikeout across his 4.0 innings of work. Overall, Love is 0-0 and has maintained a 3.12 ERA (9 ER/26.0 IP) with 26 strikeouts and eight walks allowed.

The Bulldogs will counter with righty Connor Radcliff, a freshman. Radcliff is 3-3 on the season across 13 appearances, 10 of which he has started. Radcliff sports a 7.62 ERA (33 ER/39.0 IP) and has struck out 33 compared to 28 walks issued. Opposing hitters are batting .281 off the first-year pitcher.

Tuesday's game will once again be a "Two-for-One" Tuesday, with all grandstand tickets buy one, get one free. The game will also be Miracle League Night. Throwing out the ceremonial first pitch will be women's basketball head coach Kristy Curry.

Overall, the Crimson Tide hold an 89-13 advantage over the Bulldogs, including a 72-7 mark in Tuscaloosa.

Alabama has won nine of the last 10 games, with the April 26, 3-2 walkoff loss at Samford snapping a streak of nine consecutive wins for the Tide.

Game one marked Jake Walters' first career start, with the then-freshman earning the win across 5.0 scoreless innings that included nine strikeouts.

The matchup in Birmingham saw the Crimson Tide collect a season-high tying 18 hits as eight of the nine starters recorded at least one knock. The offense was highlighted by Georgie Salem, with the center fielder finishing 2-for-4 with two solo home runs, two RBI and a pair of runs scored.

GASPARD VS. NON-CONFERENCE OPPONENTS

Under head coach Mitch Gaspard's tutelage, Alabama teams are 117-60 (.661) overall in regular season, non-conference matchups across his seven seasons leading the Tide.

The Crimson Tide has had a winning record against non-conference foes in every year except 2012 and has won 18 or more games in all five of those seasons, with a high of 19 in 2010 and 2014.

Alabama is 15-9 against non-conference opponents this season, including a 2-1 series win over then No. 27 Maryland, a sweep of North Dakota and a 3-1 weekend at the USA-Baseball Irish Classic in Cary, N.C.

The Crimson Tide owns an 18-9 mark at home compared to a 12-12 record in games away from the Joe.

At home, Alabama is batting .269 (232-863) compared to a .231 (188-815) mark away from Tuscaloosa. The Tide has also scored 131 runs at home and 94 at an opposing park or neutral site.

ON DECK

Following the single contest against Samford, Alabama will host 10th-ranked South Carolina for a three-game series from Thursday through Saturday. The trio of games will close out the Crimson Tide's regular-season schedule and likely determine UA's slotting in the 2016 SEC Tournament. First pitch is 7 p.m. for each contest on Thursday and Friday, while Saturday is slated for a 2 p.m. CT start. All three games will air live on SECN+.
