GREENSBORO | It will cost more for Georgia football fans to have the right to be a season ticket holder starting in 2017.
Per seat donations are rising from 10 to 20 percent, athletic director Greg McGarity told the UGA athletic board of directors at its quarterly meeting on Thursday at the Ritz-Carlton Lodge at Reynolds Plantation.
That ranges to a $250 increase for the 110 seats in the Champions Club to $25 for the 8,489 who have seats in sections 101 and 314-324.
It is expected to raise $2.5 million in generated revenue, which will be used for such things as facility projects.
It is the first increase since 2005 in seat donations.
McGarity said the change will put Georgia from seventh to 10th in the SEC.
“We wanted to be respectable in the increase to not price people out of a certain area but we did feel like we needed to make an adjustment,” he said. “We want to continue to encourage people to come to games. We’ve got our work cut out to make sure (that happens).”
Georgia is sold out of all 58,000 football season tickets for the 2016 season.
The Hartman Fund brought in $24.75 million this year.
UGA president Jere Morehead said he didn’t know if the board needed approval but wanted discussion.
The board endorsed the adjustments anyway.
Georgia’s staff has looked at making the changes for a couple of years.
“They will tie into facility improvements,” McGarity said. “People will be able to see where these increases are paying off.”
Faculty and students won’t be impacted because they don’t make per seat donations.
