Gaspard finishes his career at Alabama with a 234-193 overall record across his seven seasons leading the Crimson Tide baseball team

May 30, 2016

TUSCALOOSA, AL
- Alabama baseball head coach Mitch Gaspard resigned from his position on Monday afternoon. The Tide coach leaves the program with numerous accomplishments to his name during his tenure with the Crimson Tide.

Across his seven years as Alabama's head coach on the diamond, Gaspard accumulated a 234-193 (.548) record. He helped the Crimson Tide advance to an NCAA Regional on four different occasions and made one NCAA Super Regional appearance during his tenure at the Capstone.

Gaspard will leave Alabama with a .548 winning percentage, a total that ranks among the top-10 all-time winning percentages for Alabama head coaches. He is also the only coach in Crimson Tide baseball history to lead his team to an NCAA Regional appearance in his first season, a task he accomplished in 2010. That same season, the Tide won 42 total games to tie for the school record of most wins by a first-year head coach.

In 2015, he endured one of the most difficult campaigns as a head coach, spending the entire season on the road. The Crimson Tide played 34 "home" games across the state of Alabama on top of the 22 road contests slotted into the schedule during the 2015 campaign. Thirty of the Tide's "home" games were played at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium last year, as Alabama finished with 32 wins.

This season, Alabama held an impressive 19-12 record at home that included a series sweep of North Dakota and a 2-1 series win over then-No. 8 Ole Miss. The Tide also set numerous attendance records at the new Joe under Gaspard in 2016, including the second-largest all-time attendance number in Tuscaloosa across a three-game series, drawing 18,689 for the trio of games against the Rebels.

During his tenure, Gaspard has produced 26 MLB Draft picks, including six players who were drafted in the first three rounds of the draft. That total is expected to increase following the 2016 MLB First-Year Player Draft scheduled for June 9-11.

Alabama will begin its coaching search immediately following Gaspard's resignation. A replacement will be named as soon as the Crimson Tide makes a final decision on its head coach for the 2017 season.
