I like the fact that their numbers offensively improved under him.

Batting average: .250 -> .261 -> .288
OBP: .322 -> .362 -> .389
SLG%: .325 -> .360 -> .434

BB: 148 -> 187 -> 272

Coach Goff's 2 strike philosophy is what I was taught. At USA when we were on deck we were taught to walk about half way to home plate and tell the batter "be a good 2 strike hitter". I think you can see how LT's offensive stats improved every year due greatly to this philosophy IMO.

I looked at batting stats for them and us this year. They had five hitters that batted over 300 and another at 288. Compared to Bama we had one at 291 and it dropped from there. The only guy we had over 300 was Poe with only 16 plate appearances. Absolutely pathetic.

Excited to see the offense. I think we'll see more walks/higher OBP in addition to average.

Curious to see if Dax returns. Phillips and Dir of Ops are out. Interesting that Goff hasn't announced a decision on Dax. Kind of wonder if since Goff is a pitching guy, he is considering keeping Dax to really work with C and IF and help with pitching. Kinda like how Saban is really the DB coach.

On a side note, Vance, Finnerty, Rogers and Devinny all playing in the same summer league. They all played one another last night. Finnerty looked great on the mound. Devinny looked good behind the plate and improving at bat. Has a .400 OBP this summer, lots of walks. Vance and Rogers did not play. All the guys seem excited to get back to T-town and get to work.

I haven't heard anything on coaches. So Phillips and Kindred are out and Dax still in? Would like to see Dax stay at some level. Has Goff named anyone for the Baseball operations yet? What would that job do? I'm assuming it's an administrative type job. Pulling for Dax.

Nobody named yet for BB operations. Could be good to keep Dax for recruiting but, at the same time, a clean beginning across the board isn't necessarily a bad thing. After last night, Vance is batting .333 with a .460 OBP and Devinny while only at .210, has a .418 OBP. Finnerty's ERA is sub 3.00. While it would be nice to have a bunch of kids with .300+ BA, having a bunch with OBP of .400+ can be as important.

Just an update... Vance is now batting .340 with a .412 OBP while DeVinny has bumped his average to .220 with a .420 OBP. Again, would like to see the average higher than .220 but, a .420 OBP is very respectable. More Oakland A's $Ball than Bronx Bombers but, effective....
