If all goes according to plan, this will be Georgia’s last preseason without an indoor practice facility.
The inclement weather the first two days have made the Bulldogs wish they had a space to go indoors now that was suitable for football practice.
A day after practice was cut short due to storms and heavy rain, the Tuesday session was pushed up and then delayed to avoid weather issues.
“We had a good day two, probably not as good a day one as we would have liked because was he a little bit of inclement weather that cut us short,” coach Kirby Smart said Tuesday night. “We’re 2 for 2 with a little bit of weather issues.”
The $30 million indoor practice facility is scheduled to be completed by January. It remains under construction, rising over what used to be outdoor fields and a multi-purpose room adjacent to the part of the Butts-Mehre building that houses the football program.
Smart spent just over six and a half minutes in his postpractice news conference because he had a staff meeting and other pressing matters after the delay.
He said the team pushed harder on Tuesday than on Monday when the players were coming off a long weekend.
“Today was much more energy and much more passion and a lot less mistakes,” Smart said. “Tomorrow we’re looking forward to putting the pads on.”
