Read the tea leaves on Georgia’s quarterback situation at your own peril based on the three media viewing periods allotted on Tuesday.
The order in run polish went like this for most of the time with quarterbacks working with tailbacks: freshman Jacob Eason, senior Greyson Lambert and junior Brice Ramsey, although Ramsey and Lambert flipped at one point and Eason wasn’t handing it off to Nick Chubb during the period.
Eason and Lambert were paired together first in a passing drill, but later it was mixed up to include Lambert and Ramsey. There was more shuffling the deck than a clear pecking order, which is probably the way Kirby Smart wanted it viewed.
If Smart is indeed going to be cutting down reps to work a top two for the opener, there was nothing Tuesday to indicate that Eason wouldn’t be one of them. Remember, Eason got the bulk of the first team reps last week, something Smart said happened because he didn’t get any first team reps in the spring.
Other observations:
--Running back Elijah Holyfield (ankle) was on a stationary bike during the viewing periods. Smart said Monday he thought he could return to practice later this week.
--Defensive tackle John Atkins (knee) was practicing in a regular jersey and was the first of the D-linemen to go in one drill. He was followed by Trenton Thompson, Jonathn Ledbetter, Justin Young, Julian Rochester, David Marshall, Michail Carter and Tyler Clark.
--Tight end Charlie Woerner (ankle) and safety Quincy Mauger (ankle) both were practicing in regular jerseys in this practice in helmet, shoulder pads and shorts.
--Cornerback Juwuan Briscoe (shoulder) continues to practice but in a non-contact jersey.
