Take advantage of Ole Miss miscues
Georgia is tied for the Southeastern Conference lead in turnover margin with Florida and Vanderbilt at plus-three. There should be more opportunities to add to that against an Ole Miss team that has seven lost turnovers, third most in the conference. Alabama returned two Rebel turnovers directly into touchdowns last week.
Rise and shine
The game kicks off at noon ET, (11 a.m. CT), which could mean a rather tame atmosphere at the start. It doesn’t help that the Rebels are 1-2 and just had a monster game against Alabama. It should be toasty with temperatures forecast for a high in the 90s. “11 o’clock is a little different animal,” Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze said.
Hunker down in the red zone
Ole Miss ranks fourth in the SEC in red zone offense, scoring on 13 of 14 trips with 11 touchdowns. Georgia is 12th in the SEC in red zone defense, getting scored on in 9 of 10 trips with six touchdowns. Ole Miss opponents have scored on all 14 red zone chances, with eight touchdowns.
Make Kelly uncomfortable in the pocket
Chad Kelly is considered the best quarterback in the SEC, but under pressure last week by Alabama he coughed up a pair of turnovers. Ole Miss has given up seven sacks this season. Georgia pass rushers Lorenzo Carter, Davin Bellamy and D'Andre Walker have combined for 13 quarterback pressures. They are due for some sacks.
Make plays in the passing game
Jacob Eason put up 308 passing yards a week ago and it could have been more. He underthrew some downfield passes. Ole Miss ranks 12th in the SEC in pass efficiency defense and opponents are completing 62 percent of passes against the Rebels, the second highest percentage in the SEC.
