Ok, I love sauces and rubs. Love making them and experimenting, or just trying different things from the store.

Recently I bought a new rub some may want to try, found it in Winn Dixie. It is Perfect Bite BBQ's Perfect Bite Butt Polish, made here in Alabama in Trussville. They have a variety of sauces and rubs, and have garned pretty good ratings. I think it is worth a try by folks, plus you are supporting a local, small business.

I was raised in Mobile, Al. My Father played golf with Ozzie Boutwell who was the original owner of Ozzie's Barbeque. He gave Father his barbeque sauce recipe 60 years ago and it was later lost in a fire. I have been trying to find someone who has it. There was a posting on here but it ended with a retired post 4 years ago. PLEASE if anyone has this recipe please share with me. Thank you in aadvance! Julie W email: jk32352@comcast.net

I usually use Flavorama #5 Barbeque Seasoning (made in Horn Lake, MS) and add turbinado sugar. I may add more sugar than some would prefer; probably about a 2:1 ratio of seasoning to sugar and the seasoning already has some sugar.

I make my base rub about like your basic rub minus the sugar plus some celery seed. I cook my chicken over 300 deg so I don't want sugar in there that will burn. I'll add sugar in later if I'm doing pork.

I keep these books for references. Between these there are tons of good rubs.

Good links - any really off the wall or really unique rubs or sauces to share?

I'm usually not a off the wall kinda guy. I don't make sauces because it is a rabbit hole. I did have a blueberry habanero bbq sauce one time I'd like to try and recreate. I'm going to make a coffee rub tonight for a steak. If it turns out good, I'll post it.

Really the only thing I'm not a huge fan of is the Texas style salt and pepper rub. I've done the Austin BBQ thing and it is almost too salty. Maybe it is were less than 50% salt?

This was very good. I didn't have time to run to the mexican market and get chile de árbol powder so I used the red pepper flakes. I also substituted chipotle powder for the hot paprika.

https://www.bonappetit.com/recipe/coffee-rubbed-steak

2 tablespoons ancho chile powder
2 tablespoons espresso ground coffee
5 teaspoons dark brown sugar
1 tablespoon hot smoked Spanish paprika
1½ teaspoons dried oregano
1½ teaspoons freshly ground black pepper
1½ teaspoons ground coriander
1½ teaspoons mustard powder
1 teaspoon chile de árbol powder or ¾ teaspoon finely ground red pepper flakes
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 tablespoon kosher salt, plus more

Had a rib rub that used granulated honey for the base sugar. I really liked it and may have to add one like that to my rotation.

This is it. I'm going to try and recreate it. It's pretty similar to my basic rub. The ingredients are, in order, granulated honey, paprika, salt, pepper, granulated garlic, sugar, onion powder, cayenne, cumin.
