Move over Tennessee Hail Mary, Georgia on Saturday walked into a homecoming humbling by Vanderbilt.
The Bulldogs are certainly making it hard on the home fans.
In the first game between the hedges since a last gasp defeat to a top 15 Volunteers team two weeks earlier, the Bulldogs came tumbling down to two-touchdown underdog Vanderbilt 17-16 in Sanford Stadium.
Wide receiver Isaiah McKenzie lined up as the tailback in the I-formation and was stopped short of the first down marker on fourth-and-1 with 56 seconds to play. Linebacker Zach Cunningham grabbed McKenzie around the waist and made the tackle, the last of his 19 tackles on the game.
Vanderbilt (3-4, 1-3 SEC) won its first SEC road game in 10 tries under coach Derek Mason.
Georgia (4-3, 2-3 SEC) heads into an open date before playing Florida, losers of three of their last four games.
Vanderbilt defenders ran all over the field after the measurement went their way. For the second home game in a row, the visiting team celebrated in the corner of the stadium waving a flag.
It was Vanderbilt’s first win at Georgia since 2006.

The Bulldogs trailed in the third quarter, extended a three-point lead to six in the fourth quarter and then saw Vanderbilt drive 75 yards to go ahead on a two-yard Khari Blasingame two-yard touchdown run with 9:43 to play. The Commodores had just 85 yards of total offense before the drive, but got a 37-yard screen pass to Ralph Webb on third-and-11 during the drive.
A holding penalty on center Brandon Kublanow left Georgia with a fourth-and-9 at its own 42 and the Bulldogs punted after a Vanderbilt timeout. The Bulldogs had eight costly penalties for 43 yards.
Georgia outgained Vanderbilt 204-64 in the first half, but trailed 7-6 mainly because the Commodores punched in an early touchdown after taking the opening kickoff 95 yards.
Reggie Davis dragged down Darrius Sims at 4, but Webb’s 1-yard touchdown put the Commodores ahead 7-0 only 22 seconds into the game.
Vanderbilt got another score, a 38-yard field goal from Tommy Openshaw, after senior Reggie Davis fielded a kickoff near the sideline and stepped out of bounds at the Georgia 3. The Bulldogs went three-and-out and the Commodores got the three points for a 10-6 lead with 12:26 left in the third quarter.
A couple of Jacob Eason to Isaac Nauta passes helped put Georgia ahead for the first time with 9:46 left in the third quarter. Eason hit the freshman tight end on a back shoulder pass for 18 yards and then connected with him on a 17-yard touchdown pass on a corner route.
The Bulldogs couldn’t answer in the first half with a touchdown of their own in the first two quarters.
Rodrigo Blankenship’s field goals of 45 and 22 yards cut the deficit to 7-6.
Jacob Eason shook off a 5-of-17, 29-yard dismal day at South Carolina by going 9-of-16 for 150 yards in the first half, but the Georgia running game that was patted on the back all week after rushing for 326 yards against the Gamecocks?
Nick Chubb and Sony Michel each had 24 yards on 10 carries. Eason nearly had as much with 17 yards on two scrambles in a half the Bulldogs had 54 yards on 22 carries.
