Good morning from Sanford Stadium, where Georgia will play a homecoming game against Vanderbilt at noon today.
The Bulldogs, if you keeping track at home, are 75-17-2 on homecoming and have won nine in a row.
It is an overcast, put-on-a-jacket morning, but the forecast calls for the temperature to climb into the lower 70s by kickoff and into the mid 70s later.
The Bulldogs don’t have much of a track record coming off a Sunday game. OK, they have none since the 28-14 win at South Carolina was the first regular season Sunday game in program history.
Vanderbilt is 2-4, 0-3 in the SEC.
“You don’t want to sleep on anyone in the SEC,” Georgia wide receiver Reggie Davis said. “You can’t sleep on them, you can’t take them lightly. They play hard from the first quarter on all the way until the clock says zero.”
The Commodores had a shot at the end zone to tie last week at Kentucky but fell 20-13. and lost to Florida at home the week before 13-6.
Georgia rushed for 281 yards in its 31-14 win at Vanderbilt last year with Nick Chubb accounting for 189 and Sony Michel for 56.
The Bulldogs ran for 326 in the win at South Carolina Sunday.
“It’s what we built our program on here, is running the ball,” center Brandon Kublanow said. “It’s something we’re getting back to and improving on.”
Some pregame notes:
--There are bowl scouts credentialed today from the TaxSlayer and Citrus.
--Today’s game will mark the season debut for sophomore defensive lineman Jonathan Ledbetter after a six-game suspension following two alcohol-related arrests.
He brings some quickness that can boost the pass rush.
“He’s practiced well this week,” coach Kirby Smart said on his radio show Thursday night.
“We can use him on the edge,” outside linebacker Lorenzo Carter said. “He’s a big, physical and we can put him in multiple positions. Being able to have a player like him back is a big thing.”
--Just checked out the dress list roster for Georgia. Nothing big. Wide receiver Shakenneth Williams and outside linebacker Chauncey Manac are on it. So is offensive guard Solomon Kindley who missed the South Carolina trip. Not listed: wide receiver Shaquery Wilson, defensive back Shattle Fenteng (who was working on the side in practice this week), outside linebackers Keyon Brown and Shaun McGee. Freshmen offensive linemen Ben Cleveland and Chris Barnes --expected to redshirt--also aren't listed.
--Freshman wide receiver Tyler Simmons, who made his season debut last week, is wearing No. 87.
--The game captains for Georgia: Sony Michel, Maurice Smith and Isaiah Wynn.
--The referee today is David Smith. The replay official (which seems to be something people are more and more interested in) is Jon Bible.
--Cornerback Deandre Baker appears like he won't play today. He was spotted during the Dawg Walk using a crutch and wearing a cast on his right foot. (Update: Olivia Harlan of the SEC Network reports that Baker is out with a sprained ankle).
The sophomore has started the past two games after coming into the Ole Miss game.
He has 13 tackles and a pass breakup.
Juwuan Briscoe could step in. It may also be a chance for Mecole Hardman to step in for more playng time.
--Rodrigo Blankenship and William Ham both hit field goals in warm-ups from as far out as 46 yards. Georgia hasn't made a field goal from 30 yard or longer this season.
--Big-time hoops target Wendell Carter is here on a recruiting visit. Mark Fox and assistants weren't far away.
--Briscoe was announced as a starter in place of Baker. Reggie Carter, who missed the game last week after sustaining a concussion, also was announced as an inside linebacker starter.
