Bama is the leader for 4 of the decades. That's impressive. Considering 1925 and 1926, I'm surprised we're not even listed for the 20's. I'm also surprised we're not listed for the 90's with the Stallings era.

Another power was emerging. Alabama was too inconsistent to make this list -- 11-7-3 in 1921-22 and 17-10-1 from 1927-29 -- but the Tide went 19-0-1 in 1925-26, serving notice as to what was on the horizon.
The omission is salient enough to warrant a specific explanation.

The 90's may be missing due to vacated games after the Langam issue. I think we vacated 10 or 11.

Frank Thomas moves to Alabama...

Bear Bryant moves to Alabama...

Nick Saban moves to Alabama...

Makes me wonder who will be the next one on this list one day???

A couple of reflections:

1. As much as we won at the beginning of the 1990's - the mid 90's highlights how low we started to dip toward the end of that decade and for the next 10 years.

2. What if Bobby Bowden would have followed Ray Perkins??? Oh to think of the additional titles Bama might possess today!

I ponder these things from time to time and wonder "if only...then..." I soon remind myself that even 1 or 2 more wins (let alone a better hire and NCG appearance) could have put us in a completely different situation now. Maybe we are talking about Les vs Urban as the best ever. Maybe it's Saban but at a different school. Things needed to play out the way they did for us and CNS to be ready at the same time.

Trust me, I've thought about that side of it as well. I doubt any of us would trade CNS and the last decade for anything different from the '90's.

But, I guess we can wonder what would have been if Bowden would have coached at Bama instead of all those years at FSU and then we still got CNS.:)

Very cool. Looking at that list by decade, you can see why Tennessee is our biggest rival, and not Auburn or LSU. Stacked right on top of each other for 2 decades and always in the same ballpark for most of the rest.
