I'm sorry but I wouldn't give Fulmer the sweat off my anything. It's just how I feel.

Re: Inside the Failing of Tennessee Program Under Butch Jones

Battle came in and kept Saban happy in really what were the last few years it was realistic for him to get the itch and leave. For that I am grateful but Battle is enigmatic due to his ties to Alabama and Tennessee.

All I got to say to Pruitt is to Beware of the dagger stuck in Johnny Majors back. It has a habit of coming out

As for Tennessee.... I hope their losing gets to a point that their fans wish to discontinue the football team.

Tennessee's firing of Bill Battle was the beginning of the end for them.
Seriously?!?!?!

SEC champs in 85, 89, 90, 97, and 98.

National champs in 98.

SEC Division champs in 97, 98, 01, 04, and 07.

Hey, I have an unhealthy hatred for the Vols, but Battle was not a good coach there and needed to be fired.

What? I had much rather revel and wallow in their misery. Long live the second-rate Vols.

They were one of two teams to never lose 8 games in a season till they lost to Vandy last year. Ohio State is the only team to never lose 8 games and only lost 7 twice. How soft is that schedule in the Big10!

I honestly never thought their program would end up this pitiful. Then again I didn't imagine how bad things would get at Alabama either, but this is just... exquisite.

FIFY! ;)

And just "FWIW" - as far as his "not good" coaching, he went 59-22-2 in 7 seasons and never had a losing season, despite having One built-in loss (out of only 11 regular season games) almost every year, due to playing the best program in the NATION every October.

His record of 59-22-2 equates to an overall W/L % of 0.7229, which was the Second Best in the SEC for that 7 year period, and we all know who's record was the #1 best - and Battle had to play us every year. By way of Comparison, Derek Dooley was 0.4324 in three seasons and Butch Jones was 0.5397 in five seasons.

Just sayin' - I'm pretty sure the viles would LOVE to be averaging 72% wins these days...... ;)

Here ya go. Notice how each year the Vols were getting worse. Battle was 28 years old when he took over the Vols. He had been an assistant for Dickey. IMO, he was too inexperienced for the job.

Ergo, I'm comfortable with my opinion he needed to be fired.

Still not convinced? Click on the links and see who the losses were against in '75 and '76. North Texas State, Vanderbilt, and Kentucky were all losses in Knoxville.

The Vols were terrible. It was delicious and I remember it VERY fondly. This happened when I was at school in Tuscaloosa.

You forget that Alabama fans have this weird attachment to their own even if they are coaching at rival schools. Look no further than the Jim McElwain craze they had. I think Battle was mediocre and Tennessee made the right move going with Majors, but stuck with him way too long but at the same time did him dirty when they finally did replace him.

Indeed. The downward spiral stated under Phatlock. I wish they would give him the credit he deserves.
Not really. Phatlock prevented it by getting Bama put on probation and Kiffin gave them hope with a decent recruiting class. Dooley is where this thing started because he is the first non national recruiter to be there. The truth is that Mississippi St is a better job than Tennessee and Nebraska because of the lack of expectations and the far superior instate talent. It will take someone that is a national recruiter or a big splash hire to flip the script
