There's no doubt about it. The research is in its infancy, but some cases of obesity have been reversed by fecal transplants...Interesting
I am still of the belief that some obesity is caused by gut bacteria as well. I suspect that if we ever figure it all out we'll learn that there are many causes of obesity including perhaps viruses
I think you are on to something. I believe there is more than one, but the main one is pure laziness.Interesting

At home eating Lean Cuisine. I am not making fun of overweight people, but what they eat and the portions at most restaurants cannot help their weight issues. I cannot remember the last time I ate out, at a sit down restaurant, that I did not take a "doggy bag" home, plus I never eat dessert at a restaurant. And yes, I could afford to drop 5-10 pounds.I wonder where they should be instead?
Anyway, interesting article. I remember when a brave doctor stepped forward with research showing ulcers were often caused by a bacteria that lived in the harsh acidic environment of the stomach when few thought that was even possible. I love it when science is turned on its conventional head with new information. Still a long way to go on this one, but it's a start.
Sometimes you just have to eat a cake of agar teeming with ulcer-forming bacteria to silence your critics.I wonder where they should be instead?

I avoid dessert in a restaurant for the same reason I order water instead of tea: I'm cheap. At home eating Lean Cuisine. and a lack of regular physical activityInteresting read. Thanks for sharing. I think there are a lot of reasons for obesity, including high processed foods, high fructose corn syrup and even artificial sweeteners.
That ignores one point, upon which there has been research for years and that's the efficiency with which some folks' metabolisms utilize the fuel they take in. My mother was obese, although not morbidly so. She lived to 80. I've watched her eat daily only a fraction of what I ate and maintain or gain weight. It could be explained by lack of activity as she aged, but it was certainly not when she was younger. The human body is far from a simple machine...The last paragraph is a terrible straw man. Critics "don't believe it", then it brings up faith v science.
How about the science of the law of conservation of mass/energy? In order to become obese, the mass has to come from something. Are people photosynthesizing? Gaining weight still requires an excess of consumption. The virus/gut bacteria may play a part in hunger signals, but it doesn't conjure mass from the ether.
I have heard of fecal transplants to treat C. diff. but not as a possible treatment for obesity. Very interesting. I wonder if the idea came from treatments for C. diff. where a group of patients lost weight as a result? There's no doubt about it. Probably, but there were other indications it might work...I have heard of fecal transplants to treat C. diff. but not as a possible treatment for obesity. Very interesting. I wonder if the idea came from treatments for C. diff. where a group of patients lost weight as a result?
