Mt Shasta, Lassen Peak, and Medicine Lake volcanoes are all within 90 miles of me. Medicine Lake is closest. Shasta's relative location and ash potential make it the more concerning. There's a 30% chance of a M5 quake over the next 50 years, or less than 4% of a M7. Volcanoes usually give warnings. Earthquakes not so much. Tornadoes most often 20 minutes or less (this is improving). We have virtually no chance of a tornado. We have two passes to cross in winter to evacuate to Reno if necessary and chains to do it if needed. Ash would be the main concern. We are in a relatively good spot risk wise.
We did hit an unexpected snowstorm yesterday the forecasters missed. The forecast was less than an inch of snow. No big deal. We hit a canyon area sandwiched between 2 mountain ranges with 2-3 inches fresh on the ground, heavy blowing snow, and freezing fog. Visibility was bad and the road was impossible to see. Landmarks, roadside grass, and those tall poles on both sides guided the way. Through the worst of it we made about 5-10mph, but 20mph was more typical for about 20 miles. That area is like a microclimate within a microclimate. From about 5 miles in we were able to increase our speed a bit. Here in town we've had about 4-5 inches since last evening and will add perhaps 6 tomorrow I only travel major roads in winter.

I would not want to live right on top of a volcano.

ETA: The updated forecast is for up to 12 inches of new snow between now and Wed morning. Work is 4 minutes away.

"Soon" is a relative term, particularly when you are talking to volcano specialists. "Soon" could mean any time in the next 1000 years.
Still the naples metro area has a lot of people, so this will be bad when it happens. It was bad the last time it went off.

Spent some time in Naples (toured Pompeii) and the Amalfi Coast this past summer - astonishingly beautiful area and amazing people. I'd hate to see this happen.
