Zach Tanner on twitter stated that Breiden Fehoko is transferring from Texas Tech and is considering Alabama, Auburn, Ole Miss and Virginia.

I left this here because it does affect 2017 depth in some way. I would think he'll consider Alabama seriously because of the reputation it has for how DL has played.
Doesn't immediately impact the depth chart since he won't be eligible to play.

Hope he seriously considers us. We need more quality for the D line rotation, even if he can`t play until `18.

Can somebody be explain to me why Tua is so popular to field this year? Didn't we just see last year that frosh qbs have limitations? I remember a lot of people being high on Blake Barnett before he step foot on campus and we see how that played out. Blake couldn't beat out Jalen Hurts, Is Tua better than Blake or Jalen? I'm just not getting it.

Probably has to do with the Elite 11. Tua was the MVP of the 2016 Elite 11 while Jalen did not make it in to the 2015 Elite 11 finals. Also, Trent Dilfer, the Elite 11 Head Coach said Jalen was not an elite passer and that Tua was on par with the best since the Elite 11 started. No way to know if Tua is the real deal until practice starts. Regardless, our passing game has to improve no matter who plays QB.

Jalen didn't finish the season on a high note over the last four games or so, and Tua - at no fault of his own - brings a chunk of hype with him.

If Jalen had not started last year, I doubt anyone would be thinking Tua might could come in and play some this year.

But what you note in your post about Tua's passing game is significant considering how our passing game faltered big time last year under Jalen. Add to this that CNS has an opportunity to evaluate and change course in hiring a new OC and it would seem to somewhat level the playing field to some extent with Jalen and Tua and even Mac Jones.

If CNS goes with a more traditional OC (favoring the pro-set) I'd say it would be a wide open race this spring and fall.

If he grabs the #2 spot, I'd just like to see him get more reps in situations where we've got the game in hand, but are still playing a lot of the 1's because if we stick with the offense we had last year with as many QB runs as we used, the likelihood of Hurts getting injured is somewhat high, and I want our #2 to have some real game experience if we need him.

That said, till we know who the OC is and what that might mean for how the offense could shift a little bit, it'll be hard to know where we will end up.

Tua and Barnett both won the Elite 11 MVP award. Tua's arm is just as good as Barnett's, but he has a lot more mobility. So, to compare the two in today's Alabama offense, Tua would have been a more ideal QB last year, and might very well have won the starting job over Hurts as well. But he wasn't at Alabama last year, so Hurts won the job and made the most of it. Heck, considering Hurts' limitations, Alabama's offense was incredible last year. Imagine if he figures out how to quickly read defenses?

The real question - will Saban start Hurts even if he shows no improvement in the passing game? If I had to guess, I would say yes. I believe that you are going to win or lose with Hurts this year. So, as much as I believe that Tua should be given a shot, I don't think that it is going to really happen. IMO, Tua and Jones will be competing for the backup job this season.

My thoughts on the freshmen:
In my opinion Tua has a good chance to impact the posisition this year but see little chance he starts against Florida State. No way I throw a true freshman to the wolves like that. Hurts will have to improve dramatically to keep his job down the road but the 2017 season may remain his.

One of the freshman RB's could earn sigificant carries, Bo was the one who proved he could get it done last year and he is injury prone. Harris looked good but not a game breaker, Jacobs looked great at times, will have to see if he can take the next step, Emmons career is in question due to injury

IF Jeudy can put on weight he could compete for playing time, Shavers might have a shot too. EDIT: add Ruggs to that list of candidates.

I have seen conflicting reports on how big Kendrick James is, One report had him at 6' 6" 260. If that is the case expect to see him in a blocking roll this year

Alex Leatherwood and Elliot Baker may start outright as could Isaiah Buggs on the defensive line.

We have talent and depth at LB and DB so I don't know if we see an impact player there. If we do it might be as a pass rushing specialist.

agree on all this. I'm hoping we get to a deeper DL rotation in 17 like we had in 15 and if this is the case, I think Ray also gets in the rotation.

Two guys to add that are most likely day 1 starters, our new LS and kicker. even though lower rated than everyone else, they've probably got the biggest impact since they have to replace departed starters.

Gadsden, Al.
QB:
Jalon Hurts, Tua Tagovailoa, Mac Jones, Montana Murphy and Josh Palet. (I still think Josh Palet will be backup over Tua and Mac to allow them to redshirt.)
RB: Damien Harris, Bo Scarbough, Joshua Jacobs, Ronnie Clark, BJ Emmons. Freshmen: Najee Harris and Brian Robinson. ( I think I expect two more to transfer before 2017 season)
OL: Brandon kennedy, Dallas Warmack, Jacob Probasco, Will Davis, J.C> Hassenauer, Brandon Moore, Deonte Brown, Lester Cotton, Josh Casher, Ross Pierschbacher, Richie Petitbon, Jonah Williams, Bradley Bozeman, Scott Lashley, Matt Womack,Chris Owen. Freshmen: Alex Leatherwood, Elliot Baker (Juco), Hunter Brannon, Jedrick Willis, Kendall Randolph. (Hard to figure out the depth for OL, I see Ross, Bozeman and Williams locking it down, but others are up for grab)
TE: Hale Hentges, Miller Forristall. Freshmen: Kedrick James, Major Tenison (All will play I think.)
WR: Calvin Ridley, Cam Sims, TJ Simmons, Trevor Diggs, Xavian Marks. Freshmen: Tyrell Shavers, Jerry Jeudy. (Didn’t list Derek Kief or Raheem Falkins on purpose.) I listed receivers in order that I thought would see playing time. Jerry Jeudy should play as well.
DL: Da'Shawn Hand, Da’ron Payne, Raekwon Davis, Joshua Frazier, Jamar King,OJ Smith, Dwight, Johnny, Freshmen: Akial Byer, Isaiah Buggs. (This is not final list) hard to determine because we may not be done recruiting at the DL.

LB: Shaun Hamilton, Rashaad Evans, Terell Hall, Ben Davis, Mack Wilson, Jamey Mosley, Shawn Jennings, Keaton Anderson, Anfernee Jenning, Joshua Mcmillon, Keith Holcombe, Christian Miller, Mekhi BrownFreshmen: Dylan Moses, VanDarius Cowan, Markail Benton, Christopher Allen (This is very deep LB spot and This will be interesting to see who steps up in spring and fall camp)
DB: (This include CB and Safety) Ronnie Harrison, Shyheim Carter, Anthony Averett, Minkah Fitzpatrick, Hootie Jones, Tony Brown, Levi Wallace, Jared Mayden, Nigel Knott, Deionte Thompson, Aaron Robinson. Freshmen: Jhavonte Dean and Kyriq McDonald( JUCO), Daniel Wright and Xavier McKinney.
** I wouldn’t be shocked to see few people moving around at CB and Safety this spring. Hard to see who will grab a spot, assuming Marlon leaves for NFL.

Kicker: Brandon Ruiz (Freshman)
LS: Thomas Fletcher (Freshman)
Lester Cotton likely to slide further down the OL lineup since his recent Marijuana arrest.
