OL coach leaving

Who will replace him. How does this impact us.

Re: OL coach leaving

Well it gives us a chance to get a better OL coach. Or, a coach capable of getting better play out of our OL.

But I believe Cristobal is a fantastic recruiter. That is going to be difficult to replace. But Coach Saban has yet to fail in that regard.

Re: OL coach leaving

I'm not surprised, it was a bit peculiar for us to have a TE/OT and OG/C assistant this season. I figured Brent Key was likely to be given the whole OL soon. Also, Cristobal was due a promotion into an OC type role given his success and experience. It wasn't going to happen here so I figured he'd be gone sooner rather than later.

Edit: Brent Key as OL coach (instead of just interior OL coach), Mike Locksley as the TE coach, and new 10th assistant as a specialist coach? Would solve a lot needs for retention of coaching talent and player development.

Re: OL coach leaving

Any immediate effects on recruiting for this year's class?

Cristobal is a quality coach. Too good to stay in a lesser position.
Great recruiter. He will be missed.

Opening will give us opportunity to hire more great young talent.
Not only are we producing great kids going to the Pro's, but turning young coaches into sought after coaches. Success breeds success.

A loss as far as recruiting goes, no question about it, but honestly I think its a chance to upgrade at a very important position coach. JMO
Had this discussion in another thread. But the TEs blocked better this year, and the OL issues were on the interior, which Mario didn't coach.

Co-Oc? Is that like having two quarterbacks?
Many teams have them. One guy might be more of a passing guy while the other focuses more on the run game.

If I'm not mistaken, I think we had Co-OC's at one time under Dubose... Neil Calloway for running coordinator and can't remember the guy's name for passing coordinator.

CMC has done a good job for us and I wish him well.

It is amazing to see this part of the "process." Just as with the players on the field, we just say,"Next man up!" We have people ready to step right in!

This is sort of silly. Cristobal was a fantastic coach. Won the Joe Moore award last year and this year he took over TEs and tackles. Bama had the best TEs and tackles in the country by FAR. He helped OJ become the best blocking TE in the SEC if not the country.

I'm not being silly. I'm just saying we can use it as an opportunity to improve our situation. I don't think we are losing the best OL coach in the country. If its your opinion that we are, well, that's your opinion.
