Re: I miss you , Coach..

I'm 39 and there's only one "Coach." Was easy to understand who was being referenced.

If you are a Bama fan and weren't around or old enough to remember this day in '83, chat with a Bama fan who was. It will enhance your overall Bama experience.

I was among those on the side of I59/20 a couple of days later, showing respect as Coach Bryant was escorted to Elmwood Cemetary. We had just experienced the victory in his last game a couple weeks earlier. The only victory that truly felt like a loss.

Re: I miss you, Coach..

I barely remember. I was 4 about to turn 5 in a few months. The following season with Perkins is when I started understanding the nuances of the game. But I remember it being a BIG deal when Coach passed away. I hate that I never really got to see CPB 'Coach' the game in his prime. It's tough to find old full games from the 60's and 70's except a select few classics.

But from many stories my Dad has told me Coach Bryant was the best ever and still is to this day. How he was a master at psychological motivation, in-game adjustments and got the absolute best out of all his players. If Alabama lost a game it's the because the other team was just better that day. He was never 'out coached' within a game though. Those of you who witnessed his dominance 1st hand are lucky.

RIP Coach

Re: I miss you, Coach..

I was a sophomore in college. What a shock! Very similar to Elvis dying. Those people just aren't supposed to die! At the time of Coach Bryant's death I was receiving a subscription to Sports Illustrated. When I got my next issue, all it had about Coach Bryant was a small quarter page article and a picture of his casket. I called that day and canceled my subscription and to this day I have a sore spot for them, and never picked it up again. What Coach Saban has done in unsurpassed in today's game. Coach Bryant was unsurpassed during his time, and I will always consider him the best of all time. RIP Coach and thanks for the memories!

I remember this day very well. We had just buried a family member and I was very sick. While at doctor office, I heard over the radio of Coach Bryant's passing. My dad didn't know as he was at funeral home. Needless to say, Dad was very upset after I told him.

Plus to top it off, both my parents now deceased, today was their wedding anniversary.

RTR, Coach Bryant!

I tried to explain to all of these Tennessee people what is was like when Coach Bryant died. I just think about a President dying or something like that when I think about the funeral procession and all the people on the overpasses who just wanted a glimpse of Coach Bryant's car going by. I remember the school administrator coming over the intercom and announcing it. I was in my 7th grade social studies class when they told us.

Re: I miss you, Coach..

I was in 7th grade. I remember our coach coming into our 5th or 6th period class and telling us the news. It was shocking.

I can only imagine how news like that would blow up social media if it happened today, but in those days the news trickled out.

He died on Jan. 26, the day before my 13th birthday. My aunt got me every newspaper she could find the next day. I still have them.
