Werner's experience and track record as a QB coach and passing game coordinator is light years beyond Tricket's. Werner would be a great addition as a QB (DT & PS) "whisperer" to mentor our three young QBs and Tricket too, another great offensive mind on staff, and potential future Bama Co-)C or OC.
And Werner could bring some of what Ole Miss has used to incorporate into the offense.

He'd bring a lot to the party. Saban's defensive acumen is widely appreciated, but many underestimate his offensive expertise. Saban and Bellichick share the same "multiple" offensive philosophy (Erhardt-Perkins + spread hybrid), game planning use of various subsets vs various defenses, adjusting during game(s) as needed. The Patriots even have true DTQB zone-read options in their portfolio with Brissett as QB -- offense is adaptable to PS & DT QB. Daboll has coached QBs before. So has Locksley. I assume Daboll will also be the on-field QB coach for now, hopefully assisted by Werner & Trickett as analysts/consultants until Werner can be promoted to 10th on-field QB Coach.

I think it might take a game or two, but we're going to have an awful lot of fun this season.

Daboll (necessary caveat: if it's him, etc.) would likely be the QB coach. The 10th assistant being approved is not a given and I'm hearing momentum has swung behind putting that off a year. Daboll coached QBs in New York (coached Brett Favre with the Jets).

If the 10th assistant gets approved, Werner and Trickett are both possibilities to move to the field. But so is Tracy Rocker, the former Georgia DL coach, who is also a possibility to join the staff.

Joe Pannunzio will be TE/ST coach. Locksley will coach WRs.

Would Werner and Rocker both serve as analysts even if they couldn't come on board as on field coaches?

If the Daboll news holds, it proves once again that CNS is in control and works his plan. No one had Daboll on their radar for this position; but it seems to be a solid hire.

Let the good times roll tide roll!

Pushback against delaying 10th college football assistant

"The head of the NCAA's football oversight committee and the leader of the American Football Coaches Association are against delaying until the end of next season the expansion of FBS coaching staffs to 10 members. Bowlsby, chairman of the oversight committee, and Todd Berry, executive director of the AFCA, acknowledged hiring when staffs are typically set could inconvenience some schools. Still, they say it is not worth waiting..." (Read more)

I know most have already said Brian Daboll to Alabama is a done deal but Chris Lowe from ESPN is also confirming this.

Yeah. Chris Low also posted an ESPN article at 8:15 pm CT, citing "sources".

Then AL.com posted an article crediting ESPN with breaking it and stating they've confirmed via their "sources."

Sounds like everybody except the Alabama Athletic Department is reporting it as done.

Sure would like to hear it from Saban, Battle, or the new AD, official and on the record.

Source on both should probably be the reporting of Rodney Orr at TiderInsider, the first outlet to have Daboll in the mix. Will be interesting to see if they cite him. Team sites don't get a lot of love in that regard.

ESPN is the absolute worst in the profession among the big boys, even though they're not as bad as they used to be. They can still make it sound as if all scoops run through Bristol.

Orr was fairly well credited a couple of days ago in the initial round of tweets and articles reporting that Daboll was "expected" to be hired. Based on few "insider" mb posts, it appeared an offer was made, but perhaps not quite a "done deal" yet. Apparently, on Friday evening a few "sources" learned it was a done deal.

Amazing how much the media world has changed. Could say more on that, but don't want to send us to NS. It's a shame some of these guys don't get more respect.

Conversely, it's a shame that some who do get respect deserve it the least - Brando, Cowherd, Kanell, LeBatard come immediately to mind.
