I just hope he doesn't eventually transfer. I want all our running backs to stay but eventually someone probably will transfer. We need everyone to stay in case of injuries. I hope both BJ and Bo are full speed for next year!

Have you seen our Depth Chart? ON top of that we got two incoming Freshmen Who may push others for playing time. The no. 3 and no 4. spot are up for grab... Because I expect 4 RBs to get playing time because Harris and Scarbough could get hurt...

Emmons is a very talented RB & if his recovery goes great, hopefully he'll make it into our RB rotation, one thing you need if we go back to being a run heavy offense is fresh RB's in the rotation..Plus..You never ever know when the "Injury Bug" positions of need like RB's, it's a brutal position to play especially in The SEC, we need to have all RB's ready to go when the season starts..

Love watching him run, but we're pretty stacked at RB. Hope he sticks it out and gets hit shot.

That said, any RB thinking of transferring only needs to look at the injuries over the last couple of years - that 5th string position can become meaningful play time very quickly...

I read earlier this year that the injury he has is very tricky and can be career threatening.
Any idea what the injury is? Not asking you to betray a confidence, but those are some intriguing words. Makes me think it's severe turf toe, which is a lot more debilitating than the name suggests. I still think Eddie Lacy never fully recovered from his, and that it still weighs on him 4+ years later.

The reports from his local paper in NC was lisfranc.

It is lisfranc and I posted the article some time ago quoting his Mother after his first surgery. Again. he was also an outstanding DB and return specialist at Freedom High (Morganton, NC). Still, as I posted earlier in this particular thread I unfortunately believe this may not work out.... and not entirely injury related.

Wow. I had never heard of lisfranc before this thread. Googled it, and it didn't take long to figure out that it's real serious. The need for a second surgery doesn't bode well.

According to what I read, the real impediment to long-term recovery happens if the dislocation of the bone does collateral damage to the surrounding ligaments and cartilage -- and there's a ton of really small versions of both in that joint.

We all certainly want him to heal and contribute but with this injury it is unlikely. This guy is a stud, it's too bad an injury like this might end his football career. Let's hope he stays in the books and gets a degree that help him the rest of his life even if football doesn't work out. Hoping the best for this young man.

Does anyone know how the injury may have occurred? Was his foot stepped on or did it happen while running/cutting? It is more ominous when injuries happen without contact.
Either way, I hope he can get back to 100%. He has a ton of talent.

If I remember correctly, Barrett Jones had this same surgery right after he graduated. He played on the injured foot for at least a game. I think he may have had 2 surgeries also. Of course, running backs recovering from this might be more difficult. I wish BJ the best and hope he can recover.

I'm a Raiders fan, and D McFadden had a lisfranc injury when he was with the Raiders.
Took about a year to come back and seemed timid when he came back.

I think it depends on bad the fracture is, some players come back and do well, L Bell had a lisfranc at one point, has been fine.

There was thought that this was the type of injury that Julio Jones suffered a few years back with the Falcons. However I believe Julio had only the 5th metatarsal fractured. Usually Linsfranc involves multiple fractures in the metatarsals.

Prayers for BJ and hopes for a complete and speedy recovery.

From what I've read, the bone fractures aren't the long term problem. They usually heal fine.

The problem comes when the fractured and/or displaced bones damage the zillions of small tendons, ligaments and cartilage that are all packed in the joint, close around the bones. The soft tissue is what can prevent a full recovery to elite athletic performance.
