TUSCALOOSA, AL –
Alabama baseball fell, 6-3, to Oral Roberts on Friday evening at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. The Golden Eagles used a trio of runs across the seventh and eighth innings to come away with the victory in the series opener.

"I thought that we got outplayed tonight in all facets of the game by a better team," said Alabama head coach Greg Goff. "We've got to be able to manufacture runs and get situational hits, especially on Friday night. Tonight, we had some things that hopefully our players will learn from moving forward. I know our guys are going to be excited about coming out here tomorrow and trying to even up the series against a good Oral Roberts team."

The Alabama offense received multi-hit games from Keith Holcombe and Cody Henry, with each finishing 2-for-4 with a run scored, while Holcombe contributed an RBI. Cobie Vance led the Tide in RBI, finishing with two on the night, and notched his first career triple as part of his 1-for-4 effort.

Oral Roberts struck first in the contest, collecting two runs in the top of the third. A one-out single followed by a stolen base put a runner in scoring position for the Golden Eagles. One batter later, a single plated the game's first run, and one more single scored the second run of the inning to move ORU in front, 2-0.

The Crimson Tide bounced back in the bottom of the inning, answering with a pair of runs to even the score at 2-2. Holcombe led off the frame with an infield single and advanced to second on a throwing error by the shortstop. Chandler Avant drew a walk in the very next at-bat to place runners on first and second with nobody out. One out later, a two-run triple by Vance cleared the bases and tied the game at two apiece.

In the fourth, the Tide took the lead with one run of its own to move the score to 3-2 in Alabama's favor. Cody Henry began the sequence, sending a one-out single down the right-field line. After working a full count, Connor Short drew the walk in the following at-bat to put runners at first and second for the Tide. Holcombe then followed with a single, his second hit of the night, to score one and give the Tide the lead.

Oral Roberts scored one in the fifth to even things up at 3-3. A leadoff single followed by a fielder's choice and a wild pitch moved a runner into scoring position. The next at-bat saw the Golden Eagles single, plating the tying run and ending Alabama starter Nick Eicholtz' day.

The Golden Eagles struck for a total of three runs across the seventh and eighth innings to take a 6-3 lead and the win. In the seventh, a leadoff double followed by a pair of singles allowed a run to cross, putting ORU back in front at 4-3. One batter later, another single plated the inning's second run to extend the lead to 5-3. Oral Roberts came back to add one more in the eighth, using a two-out single to tally one and make it a 6-3 game, the eventual final.

Alabama and Oral Roberts will return to the diamond tomorrow afternoon for the second game of the series scheduled for a 2 p.m. CT first pitch at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. The Crimson Tide will look to junior Jake Walters, a righty, while the Golden Eagles will counter with Josh McMinn, a sophomore right-hander. The matchup will air live on SEC Network+.
