I could see him staying because while he can rush the passer some he still isn't a "pass rusher." Makes me think he could be around for another year
that's my point also. DLs in the NFL now have a higher premium if they are known pass rushers and penetration players, so Payne has a bit of a perception he needs to create on that. If it doesn't happen his year to the tune of 4-5 sacks or at the least a lot of hurries and a handful of TFLs, I could see him coming back to prove a point.

Jalen never looks fast on the field... It's that long stride.
Jalen can be really smoking, but it looks like he's loping along. (That's good)
Exactly..Derrick Henry always looked like he was jogging along as he he steadily pulled away outrunning those smaller & speedy DB's..Jalen & Henry both just have a smooth long glide that steadily outruns anyone chasing them & it's fun to watch in games..

And this article gets my Crimson Tide a pumping reading these updates..I'm most excited about Josh Jacobs cause it sounds like he's gotten a lil bigger & stronger without losing his football speed, that's not good for the rest of college football, I hope Jacobs gets more touches this season cause he has the ability to be the best RB on our roster..He's the type RB that only gets stronger as the D's we play starts wearing out..Jacobs can be a feature RB at Bama or any other school in college football or I think so..

The wide view normally used doesn't fully translate just how fast he is (his gait is a bit deceptive from that view I believe). Seeing him at field level shows it a bit differently.

That is deceptively fast. He was way ahead of a guy that started right behind him by the end.

I predict Moses makes the first ST tackle of the year.
I am going to be surprised if Moses contributes much in his first year. He drew national attention and rankings by being so far above everyone athletically at a young age and then committing to LSU as a 9th grader. But, most highly ranked high school LBers caught up to him in football ability. I think Allen has a better chance of contributing early. P.s. Not sour grapes, just an opinion.

Some thoughts on this info:

Christian Miller was a top recruit but hasn't played much because he didn't develop physically as fast as others, but at 6' 4" 240 and still having the speed he might be one of those guys that "come out of nowhere" and has a Tim Williams type season. It should be noted that NFL scouts love guys who bloom late, shows they are still growing and less mileage.

Rashaan Evans was not one of speed leaders at linebacker. Which is shocking because we know how freakin fast he is. This linebacker corps is deep.

For a guy who is 6' 7" Raekwon Davis can still cling massive weight. This guy is almost a genetic mutation. I saw him toss a Division 1 OL into the backfield like an angry bull on a rodio clown. I believe this guy could disrupt entire offenses if he reaches his potential.

I still believe we would be better off if we can find winners at safety and send Minkah back to star where he can roam freely and cause havoc. That means Hootie Jones or someone else needs to step up.

Good to hear quality numbers from Lester Cotton. I hope this year is a comeback year for him. He looked good at times last season but obviously not quite there.

I really hope they can manage all the RB depth. These guys are all competative and want to play but the wear and tear of the SEC isn't a good thing for four years. They really need to see the bigger picture and leave the heavy load for their 3rd or 4th seasons. NFL guys are not going to be enthusiastic about a guy who has absorbed too many hits. The way they are spaced out there are going to be plenty of carries for all of them to impress the scouts.

I personally have high hopes for Lester and will be both surprised and disappointed if he`s not at least a solid contributor before he leaves.

Would be interesting to see a couple or three "novel" formations employing more than one of our excellent RBs on the field at the same time.

I saw Moses in the Under Armour all-star game and he stood out among the elite. I didn't realize he is as big as he is (unless numbers are inflated).

I get what you are saying about players that really stand out when young. Some of them have already advanced way beyond their chronological age and have peaked out. I've seen this a number of times.

it ain't the offseason without some "will we use the wishbone next season?" talk :D
You`re right, it is, but I don`t think it would be a triple option type thing ( although you really couldn`t say that we don`t have a QB that could run it! ). I just think it would be " interesting " to get more than one of those talents on the field at the same time. Would love to see it personally.

I expect him to contribute to the team this season. I think we have hall, Jennings and Wilson to compete for playing time. With Evans and Hamilton back there, and we know Evans might move to outside time to time throughout the season and that's not a bad thing. With Hamilton possibility out for the spring, I expect young guy to push hard for playing time at ILB and OLB.

I still believe we would be better off if we can find winners at safety and send Minkah back to star where he can roam freely and cause havoc. That means Hootie Jones or someone else needs to step up.
Actually, we are better off with Minkah back there with Hootie or Harrison. Minkah has a good vision of the field. he crossed trained between CB and Safety and he did good job back there. I think that is his home for now. Brown will take over Minkah's old spot. Both of them should play lot better.

IMO, it's gonna be hard for Cotton to get starting job back. You have a JUCO transfer from Baker and then you have a freshmen, Leatherwood...

This team has done real good job of managing the RB depth for years. Last year was little puzzling because we didn't use Bo often. This spring, I expect Townsend, N.Harris and Robinson to make name for themselves and that can go long way this fall when we have fall camp. I don't expect BJ Emmons to participate this spring, and Ronnie Clark to transfer. So we probably will see the young players getting lot of looks this spring. Harris, Jacob and Scarbough won't do much.

Chardarius Townsend. Nobody is talking about him. The fact they put him at RB where the depth chart is deep speaks volumes about him. My guess is that Coach will probably use him as Kenyan Drake 2.0... Moves all over the field as WR, RB.

Curious if any one else noticed this but Jalen seemed to be really hesitant as a runner earlier in the season that made him seem slower than he is. Especially in the first few games. As the season went on he became more comfortable (possibly too comfortable?) running and his speed started to show more and more. He is also incredibly graceful at times which reminds me a little of Yeldon.

I think we'll see Miller in the role T Williams had, where he's primarily a pass rush specialist in the dime package and in the skinny nickel and getting some reps in the heavy nickel and base. most of the base and heavy nickel reps will go to Jennings and Hall as OLBs due to their bigger size, unless Jennings bulks himself up to a spot on the Dl which isn't out of the question. I don't think Wilson will be in the mix at all as an OLB. His spot is inside and with hamilton out, I think we'll see him next to Evans with the 1's starting out in the spring and being pushed by Davis, moses and others. We won't see it in the spring, but I will be interested to see if we bust out the package we used some against clemson with only 1DL and 4 LBs as a speed rush package, especially since we have some pretty big OLBs this season.

The secondary development will be fun to watch. minkah will be on the field regardless, but where is the question. He can be just as good at CB, Star and S so I really think it depends on how other players develop around him. in other words, does Hootie at S present a better option than Brown at Star or CB? Do we need Minkah at CB or does a young guy step up and take that? With him being so versatile we have a lot of options.

I agree on cotton, although his starting role at RG wasn't like he lost the starting role at tackle. Some guys can make that switch inside and some can't. I think bringing in a JUCO guy might signal the staff thinks he might not be able to step outside effectively either.
