I had two back molars pulled a while ago. How are your implants working out DBF?
They are good. I had one on the bottom front done years ago as well. That tooth died from "trauma" probably due to sports or fighting, which I was fond of many moons ago. I now have three. I'm probably going to do two every two years (insurance cross over stuff) until all the molars are done. $8K for two...ugh.

I hate going to the dentist. I would rather go to the gyno any time than to the dentist. I have bad luck with my teeth ever since I was a teenager. I floss, brush twice daily, use a fluoride mouthwash, and a prescription fluoride toothpaste, and I still get cavities all the time. My brother has the same luck. I don't know what else to do, but dentist bills are insane. I don't know if having dental insurance is worth it though.

I felt bad about having to cancel my appointment with the regular dentist in Huntsville, so I made the bright choice to call at 8 this morning thinking no one would be there since they don't open until 10. Wrong. The lady answered, so I made up a story that I had to work Tuesday (which I really do), but I told her I would call back next week after she asked if I wanted to re-schedule. I don't know why I always make these things harder than they have to be. I'm always afraid I'm going to make them mad or something. :conf2:

Just get it done. The sooner you take care of it, the less "damage" done. Wait too long and you'll be getting teeth pulled and implants...oh, wait....

You know from experience, huh? :)

I got in a hurry yesterday trying to find a doctor so I could make an appointment since most are closed on Friday. I called the one closer to the house since my regular dentist recommended I go to a specialist (I go Wednesday as it is starting to hurt worse), but I had already made the appointment with the other regular dentist in Huntsville. I should have just said I was going to go to one closer to the house instead of telling a white lie. I don't know why I hate cancelling appointments so much.

Jessica, go to the specialist. I am a general dentist and routinely do root canals but I do them exactly like a specialist would. Most general dentists do not. A root canal is the hardest procedure in dentistry to perform.

You will have to be anesthetized whether or not you get "the gas." I don't give my patients gas because they breathe it back in my face and I don't like to work on patients when I'm high. Think about that.

The procedure should be absolutely painless. If it hurts, you are not numb enough. Tell the dentist if you are experiencing pain. He has plenty of anesthetic and can get you numb.

There is a chance of post op pain because this is a surgical procedure. I don't always give my patients post op meds so be prepared to use over the counter to control pain. If that does not do the job, you will need a written prescription.

After 10 days your tooth should feel normal. It's OK if there is an occasional twinge because things take a while to heal, but after 10 days you should be able to chew on the tooth.

If it is a posterior tooth (cuspid or further back) you should have a crown put on the tooth after it is asymptomatic. The crown acts as a ferrule to keep the tooth from splitting.

You actually got some pretty good advice from others. It seems Earle is never wrong with issues related to health.

I had a root canal back in 2009 and my dentist drilled through my crown and it was a four root job.

So, I'm hoping someone can tell me this is normal, but I had the root canal done a week ago, and I am still hurting. It woke me up in the middle of the night last night. I did forget to take the medicine he prescribed (550 mg of Aleve every 12 hours). That only helps for a little bit, though. It hurts when I try chewing on that side (they said I could eat on it), and it aches if I'm not. It doesn't hurt on the sides of tooth just on the top where he drilled through my crown.

I don't think that is normal Jessica. Go back to the Dentist

I just finished up my second one. Now, time for four crowns. Already had two teeth pulled and implants put in. The dentist, oral surgeon and endodontist love me. I heard they were going to get together and buy me a stripper for my 50th. At least I'm trying to convince them. ;)

Sorry to bring this thread back up, but I’m having issues.

Got the root canal done in March. The tooth already had a crown on it, so I went back to my regular dentist a couple weeks later to get it permantely filled. During this time I was having the same pain as before the root canal, so I asked them to show me where it was cause I thought they did the wrong tooth. It turns out the tooth in front of it was pretty bad decayed, so I had a filling soon after the root canal. They thought this was causing the pain this time. A few weeks later, still hurting in that area, so my regular dentist said come in and we’ll check it out. Turns out the bite was too high on the root canal tooth, and he said it was causing my surrounding ligaments to ache. Give it a few days and it should be fine.

The pain has dimished probably 90% from what it was, but to this day it’s a dull ache in the gum area and there is a pain not when I eat (doesn’t hurt at all when I chew) but when I tap on it say with my finger or toothbrush. Not sensitive to hot or cold either. Just a weird sensation. Not sure how to describe it.

I was due for a cleaning this week, so I decided to go to a new dentist. I told her about it, and she said the root canal looked great and the bite was good. I’ve called the Endodontist that did it about it, and they asked me if I’m grinding my teeth. I said not that I’m aware. So now I have no idea what to do. Maybe it’s just taking forever to heal. Maybe there’s something wrong with it that isn’t showing up on X-ray. IDK. I can live with the pain, it’s not that bad, but it’s very annoying for sure.

Maybe be go back to the Endodontist and see what he says. I hate to waste money for him to say nothing is wrong. Not sure what to do from here.

That pain that woke me up was the tooth in front of the root canal one. It had a lot of decay in it. Still something up with the root canal tooth I’m pretty sure. All the surrounding teeth have fillings, so don’t think it’s the surrounding teeth :D

I had a problem with something similar several years ago. It's seems another tooth close by was the culprit and they may have had to redo something on the original tooth. Unlike Bill, my memory has gaps and I was too busy with other things to pay close attention. I just wanted the pain to stop and finally it did after they were done. I'd keep pushing the issue until it is resolved.
