Republicans in Congress just voted to reverse a landmark FCC privacy rule that opens the door for ISPs to sell customer data. Lawmakers provided no credible reason for this being in the interest of Americans, except for vague platitudes about “consumer choice” and “free markets,” as if consumers at the mercy of their local internet monopoly are craving to have their web history quietly sold to marketers and any other 3rd party willing to pay.

The only people who seem to want this are the people who are going to make lots of money from it. (Hint: they work for companies like Comcast, Verizon, and AT&T.) Incidentally, these people and their companies routinely give lots of money to members of Congress.

So here is a list of the lawmakers who voted to betray you, and how much money they received from the telecom industry in their most recent election cycle.

If corporations are people, then the GOP is indeed representing it's most valuable constituency.

so i wonder when some enterprising organization is going to purchase the browsing history of those 265 congress critters and share them with the public.

i imagine the law would go away rather quickly.

I'll pitch in for the crowdfunding.

So the party that is supposed to be for personal freedom/liberty/privacy/etc. does something as shameful as this? I wonder when freedom loving patriots are going to quit falling for the GOP?

biggest lie in America today, can't believe how long I bought it myself but it clearly isn't true. You see that an Alabama GOP Rep put up a bill to require a porn filter to be installed on all "internet connected devices" with an opt out fee for each to the Government if you want to access the naughty stuff? http://abc3340.com/news/local/house-bill-would-put-porn-filters-on-cellphones

got to love the freedom the GOP wants us to have

When Alabama lawmakers return to the Capitol next week they will consider a bill that would criminalize the sale of a smartphone or other internet access device without a pornography filter. Adults wanting to turn off the filters would pay a $20 fee and request the deactivation in writing.
Rep. Jack Williams filed HB 428 earlier this month.

The Dems are hardly perfect, but the GOP ceased being the party of individual freedom a long time ago. They are the party of the corporation and the wealthy. It's why they'll never pass a health care bill: the central pillar of their plan is a massive tax cut on the wealthy and corporations.

Not only did they sell us all out, they actually included a rule that will prevent a future administration from undoing this change. They also voted to stay minimum requirements that ISP's take "reasonable measures" to protect confidential info, like your social security numbers, that your ISP has on you.

Here is Tom Wheeler, FCC Chair under Obama's OpEd in the NYT on this

As I said in the other thread, I am done with them. No, I cannot simply move over to the Democrats. I have so many issues with their core platform. But I may find myself voting Democrat on a local level more and more. It's not just who may or may not be their masters. It's that they have become the slimiest and most blatant lying party, overtaking the Democrats. Perhaps they always have been and I am just now seeing it clearly.

But when Nancy freaking Pelosi gets an issue correct and you don't, then you've got a massive problem.

I agree with you. Only gave the vote to the D this time as I saw this happening as well as the death of Net Neutrality and the dangers of Kommandant Trump as being enough reason to hold my nose and vote Hillary. I came to the same conclusion as you are now during the Bush Admin.

Wonder if they're going to exempt their own devices or claim legislative immunity? I notice Spicer has changed his hairstyle to try and look a little less like Melissa McCarthy... :D
