This is a long-festering problem. The people of Gibraltar have themselves rejected even joint sovereignty with Spain and Britain within the last 10-15 years. They are essentially autonomous except for defense and foreign relations. Yes, it'll be interesting. I can't see Spain invading Gibraltar in the end...
