Hmm, your off button must be different from mine. When my TV is off, it doesn't try to convince my that my beliefs are "fairy tales".
Jon, my point is just that atheists often hold onto their belief that there is no God or gods just as fervently as believers in different faiths hold onto theirs. And since there are no facts or evidence (beyond anecdotal) to support any of those beliefs, I think it is reasonable to think of atheism the same way as I do for all the others. As simply one's own personal beliefs as to how the world works.
You are obviously a very intelligent person. Can you see how I view people arguing unprovable beliefs as absolute fact, whether those be that there is no God, that aliens seeded the planet, that we all have animal spirits, or that Jesus rose from the grave, as just different flavors of religion/belief system/faith or whatever else you want to call it.
I would think that about the only people who are truly without a religion/belief system/faith, are the agnostic.
