NASHVILLE, TN –
Alabama baseball suffered an 18-1 loss to Vanderbilt on Thursday evening at Hawkins Field. Following the series opener with the Commodores, the Crimson Tide is 19-33 on the season and 5-23 in Southeastern Conference play.

Vanderbilt starter Patrick Raby (9-3) worked 7.0 scoreless innings, allowing two hits and issuing five walks while striking out seven for the win. Alabama's Deacon Medders (2-1) suffered the loss, working 3.0 innings in his first career SEC start.

The Commodores jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Vanderbilt used five hits, including three consecutive singles, to gain the advantage after one. In the fourth, the Commodores put up an eight-spot on the power of seven hits to make it a 13-0 contest.

Vandy added one more in the fifth with a double followed by a single to set the score at 14-0 after five innings. The Commodores then plated four in the bottom of the seventh to extend the lead to 18-0. Alabama got on the board in the top of the eighth thanks to a Chandler Avant solo home run, setting the score at 18-1, the eventual final. The home run was Avant's second of the season and his career, with the other coming on a grand slam against Alcorn State on April 18.

Alabama and Vanderbilt meet for game two of the series tomorrow evening with a 6:30 p.m. CT first pitch scheduled at Hawkins Field. The Friday matchup will feature a pair of right-handed juniors with Jake Walters getting the nod for Alabama and Kyle Wright throwing for Vanderbilt. Fans can catch all the action on SEC Network+.
