The former math teacher at Rocky Mount Preparatory School was arrested last week on charges of three counts of sexual activity with a student and one count of indecent liberties with a minor in connection to alleged off-campus sex acts with two 17-year-old students and one 16-year-old student.

Let's go ahead and assume all of the "Niiiice" and "where was she when I was in school" etc comments... but...

It's kind of amazing after all the national stories how many of these women/men are still willing to risk doing this. I dunno if they get off on the danger/taboo of it, or are just addicted to sex and can't help themselves or what. I know this stuff has gone on forever really but it's clear that the generation currently in high school is really bad at keeping secrets.

It's always been like this. We just have the internet now.

I have a 17 y/o daughter. We monitor her facebook and other social media apps.
Kids today feel they have to share when the go to the bathroom. I totally dont get the mindset.
Its just the way it is and back when I was in school you kept you mouth shut about what you did and you sure didnt take pics. The people that post this are getting what they deserve and I have no compassion for Stupid.

I never had a teacher that was bang worthy in high school. NOT ONE! I feel like I've been cheated some how. My youth was taken away from me.

Seriously, where were all these skanky hot teachers in the 80s?

Same with me! Not a single teacher in high school was hawt! Not one! I always believed they were super hot in the late 60s and the 70s and got past their prime in the 80s. In fact, I had heard stories of certain teachers and their exploits in the 70s! Then to make matters worse, they decided to all retire after I graduated and the new batch of hot and young ones came in as teachers!

In fact, one was a girl I grew up with and I posed the question to her about hooking up with students. Her reply was that she was married! My reply was,"That's not a NO!" :)

Damn. Assuming guilt, what was she thinking? Smokeshow. Guys her own age would be chomping at the bit to get with her.
I wonder if these teachers who do this, feel as though they have some kind of power over the kids they are with? That they can mold them in the matter that they want the other person to be, and they know they can not have that type of influence over someone their own age.

Or, if it is a mindset that they regret not knowing in high school what they now presently know, without understanding the wisdom they have gained with age, and want to "experience" high school with this new found knowledge.

I had 1 in high school She doubled as the volleyball coach and consistently wore dresses with no bra on. Even being 17-18 yrs old I was thinking, "This is just a court case waiting to happen."

On a related note I was also close friends with a guy for 2 years in high-school and then found out he had slept with a teacher at his former school...a case that was currently playing out on local news. She went to prison and he sat with me at lunch and laughed at dumb jokes and drank chocolate milk. Things weren't quite the same after I figured out it was his testimony the news was quoting most nights.

In this particular case apparently the teacher thought they were truly in love. She was homely looking, had lived a VERY sheltered life - gone to Pensacola Christian College - that's not a remark on Christianity but if any of you know what the culture is like at PCC you might understand why it's relevant. Not sure what ended up happening with him. I should look him up on Facebook.

(Update: Found him on Facebook. Seems to be living a pretty normal life. Has a kid but isn't married but that's not too unusual.)

Count me in the boat of not having any hot teachers in my entire school career either.

Have to tread carefully here (since Mrs. C still teaches there), as the PTB seem to have gotten the matter buried, but.................

A certain married female teacher was escorted, in handcuffs, off the campus one day. The next day her computer was seized and hauled off.

All we ever learned was that it involved a 7th-grade boy. Seems she left enough clues that were easy to follow. Starting with tons of "whatever they are called", to many of her students, on that twittering box doo-hickie.

I only had one and the first time I met her I asked her out, thinking she was a student.

Yeah, things got very awkward very quickly.

there were 3 at my last high school (I went to 3 different HS's) one was a Bama grad who encouraged me to apply but I got no further than that. One was a super hot Spanish teacher that was rumored to be hooking up with several seniors but no one ever fully bought it

Young adults (teachers in this case) entering the workforce aren't as "grown up" as the young adults were 30 years ago at that same age. They just simply aren't. It's no different than my mom and dad at age 19 were more of "adults" than I was at the same age. Most people from older generations had to grow up faster. So these young teachers entering the workforce at 22,23,24 years old are, from a maturity standpoint, not that much different than the students they are teaching.

That's my take and I'm sticking it. LOL!

Give me ambiguity or give me something else.

Alternative interpretation: It's just being investigated and prosecuted more.

Sex assault charges and investigations are notorious undercounts of the sex assaults that are actually occurring, and changes in reporting/charges/investigations aren't really correlated to changing rates of assault (As measured by, for example, victimization surveys).

My thinking is as social norms of appropriate sexual behavior have been changing and this kind of thing is increasingly seen as wrong prosecutors feel more empowered to prosecute this and victims and their families have felt more empowered to report it. Hence an increase in investigations and reporting, but not necessarily an increase in actual frequency.

(It should also be noted that social media leaves and evidence trail that wouldn't have been left for investigators to find in prior eras)

We need a study that differentiates between these hypotheses. I would like a study in which we ask men of all ages if they ever had sexual encounters with teachers when they were in school. I believe we'll see similar rates across age groups rather than an uptick in recent years.

Was she Latin? That just adds to the allure. Sorry. ;)

Yep, my dad always seemed so old to me in his 40's. I am 42 now and I am still very young.

Count me in as having no hawt teachers at all.

This latest teacher to sleep with students is freaking smoking hawt and every guy her age are probably clubbing each other over the head just to get her to talk to them. Hell I am older and would. She must be 9 kinds of crazy and have some serious mental issues to want to be with a child. She is sick and needs professional help and someone needs to tell her these kids she is banging don't have jobs or money. Some of us older guys have successful jobs and money to burn and are so awesome they can survive being hit by a car.

So she was 23 when first occurance happened. 3 students.

So as a math teacher, teaching 23 x 3. Interesting.

Lots of factors. More sex on TV, raised on "reality TV". But it remains that sex between a minor male and aan older woman is one thing, and between a student-teacher another. Both present some issues, but tge latter is way more problematic to me. It can't be chalked up to just immaturity.
