YouTube has done a lot to help clean up the gene pool. Looks like in this case she was already pregnant, though, so they may miss out on a Darwin Award on a technicality.

A lower-powered hollow point would probably be a good choice. Using one of the most powerful autoloaders made will virtually guarantee this outcome...

I read this last night and almost couldn't believe someone would be that gosh darn stupid. A 50 cal? Same result at 50 yards. And she did this from 1 foot away. She's as stupid as she sounds and maybe evil (and lying) too.

depends on the book War and Peace would probably stop anything short of a 50 Cal with a normal round. A book on "Trumps greatest legislative achievements in his first 6 months" might not stop a rubber band, depending on who wrote it.

Let's keep in mind this is a .50 Desert Eagle, so it's an autoloading pistol - not the same thing as the .50 cal Browning (ma deuce) that some seem to be picturing. The .50 AE only slightly larger than a .44 Magnum, but does generate about twice the muzzle energy, so it's definitely not the right choice for this sort of stupidity.

Then again, maybe it is the perfect round for this sort of activity...

Aside from this being completely stupid as hell to attempt to begin with, combined with the caliber choice, you would think they would do several test firings at books to see how far the bullet would penetrate before actually attempting the stunt.

Even if the book stopped the bullet, holding a book that was shot by a DE .50 cal round at close range, would probably feel like being hit in the chest with a sledgehammer....
