When the story says, "light attack aircraft," this is what they mean by "light." Not a lot of protection, but it carries .50 cal machine guns, rocket pods, gravity bombs (both "dumb" and guided). In the right environment, that would do well. It would cost a lot less to fly that an F-16 or even an A-10.
