I remember it well.

I was at the game. Missed the forecast and drove in from Montgomery with only a light windbreaker. Froze half to death. Thank goodness I sat next to our backup center's mom and she shared the end of a blanket she and her husband had so I kept legs from becoming completely immobile.

After the game Coach Bryant said it was about the coldest he had ever been.
Looked up some temps.

The high in Memphis the day before the game was 66 so it was easy to miss.

The wind would cut through you like a knife. Tony Nathan had a huge game.
The wind was the killer as the cold front blasted through. According to Wunderground, the low for gameday was 28 and it got down to 21 the next day. I would have sworn it was much colder...

If you'll Google it, that sounds right. Here is what the NY Times had:

U.C.L.A. was making its first postseason appearance outside the Rose Bowl, and the visitors from California seemed frozen by temperatures in the low 30s and a wind‐chill factor of 11 degrees.
