This isn't necessarily AAU. It's just the overall dirty world of college basketball recruiting.

Not just them...................called a buddy, in Tuscon, and woke him up, with the good news!

    (Yeah, I'm rotten.)
As I say, we tried to remove the tusks. But they were embedded so firmly we couldn't budge them. Of course, in Alabama the Tuscaloosa, but that is entirely ir-elephant to what I was talking about.

Yeah this is the way it's gone on for years and the NCAA looked the other way. This is going to radically change college basketball.

I'm pretty sure this goes on at nearly every program that routinely gets 4-5* talent. Just unfortunate we're going to get hammered for it.

And we deserve to be. Money going from a coach to a student-athlete? Yep. Bring down the hammer.

As an aside, I wonder what happens to Louisville, who was already on probation.

Not just money going from coach to player, but "come to my house after the game and you'll meet my guy who will give you some cash."

They said the probe has revealed numerous instances in which bribes were paid by athlete advisers, including financial advisers and associate basketball coaches, to assistant and associate basketball coaches to exert influence over student-athletes so the athletes would retain the services of those paying the bribes.

In criminal complaints, investigators said basketball coaches have the ability to provide access to the student-athletes to sports agents, financial advisers, business managers and others.

    Probably.

The big question for us is Pearl's involvement. Right now he seems to have plausible deniability, but I guarantee you folks are examining every detail under a microscope.

Re: NBC News: Several NCAA Assistant Coaches Arrested by FBI

While I shed no tears for Auburn, I need some help with the legalities from some of our legal eagles.

Coaches paying players is without question major NCAA violations, including FTM and LOIC. But how is this a federal question, and why is the FBI involved?

The full weight of the Feds coming down on your head -- subpoena power, threat of perjury, unlimited legal resources, etc., etc. ad infinitum -- will make the NCAA enforcement staff look and feel like Snuffles the teddy bear. But how do they have jurisdiction?

Regardless of my ignorance, they apparently do. And this is on top of the softball team's unrelated Title IX problems.
You can't reason a man out of a position he didn't reason himself into.
