Before or after he carried 20 weapons to a strategically appropriate corner room? I know. It boggles the mind not knowing why someone would do such. No reason is sufficient.

He really only mentions FA or bump, neither of which really fits the pattern of fire. CA's theory of a bad trigger sear mod could explain the irregular pattern of fire. However, I agree that there's something awfully weird here. Interesting that ISIS has already claimed him...
Hope he didn't destroy the brain with the suicide shot. I'd sure like to know if there were anomalies...
This real life thing is so bizarre that not even CSI - which had some pretty ridiculous plot lines at times as far as reality - ever did this.
This was too premeditated for that, I think. He chose the side of the building overlooking the festival and stockpiled for days before acting. There's a piece we're missing.
I've never been a betting man so I don't know, but if we're talking about serious money, I suspect he might have had days before the payment was due. But again, shot in the dark.
And just when I was about to post that the guy could have been kidnapped and forced to rent the hotel room in his name and some other deranged guy or guys did all of this and will be doing it again with some other poor sap. Instead the guy came in all the time? Sounds like the family did not know anything about him at all.
That was the first thing that crossed my mind this morning when I turned on the tv at 4:00am and heard about the shooting.....guy loses his life savings and goes off on the world...dude was definitely one sick puppy whatever his reasoning was.

There have been many variants of crank fire assemblies for sale for years. I ran across one a couple years back that was a direct bolt on to the trigger guard for around $40 (the one I looked at was for an AR platform, but I'm sure they make them for other weapons). A stack of 100rd beta mags and a few AR's (to swap between to keep from overheating) could lay down that much fire very easily, for not a whole lot $....

Do we know if the weapons were purchased legally? Could've been stolen or purchased under the table..
I started thinking about the embezzlement we had at Phoenix of Huntsville several years back. The last $400K the kid hit us far was to pay off a Las Vegas gambling debt. He told the FBI agent that they had told him that it was either pay up the $400K or he'd be found dead. Since his two closest friends had just been found dead - one in Las Vegas - he said it was no choice at all. Then was when I started carrying again...
None of this makes sense. From all appearances, this guy was an upstanding, law-abiding citizen right up until this incident.
He had no criminal record, no history of mental illness, had not served in the military, and appeared to neither be openly political nor religious. He even had a pilot's certificate.
Yes, he had recently displayed some significant gambling activity but he was described as currently making his living via gambling and those amounts of gambling activity are not unusual for professional, semi-professional, or wanna-be-professional - aka hobbyist - gamblers.
This seems to be the kind of guy who would pass even the strictest gun control checks in the country and had been buying firearms, while passing the associated background checks, for years.
No gun control laws short of a complete firearms ban with confiscation would have likely stopped this - which, to be honest, is usually not the case when dealing with legally purchased firearms (which is not the norm in mass shootings).
And, to top it all off, there is no discernible motive.

Prayers for all the victims and their families. This is just horrific. 58 people gone in just a little over 4 minutes. As bad as that is, it might have been a lot worse had the police not found him sooner. Props to the LV police in getting there as soon as they did, they probably saved more lives than we will ever know.
Im simply not buying that the guy snapped. The venue and amount of fire power assembled lends itself to being painstakingly planned, coldly calculated, and too well thought out. This guy obviously wanted to maximize casualties and mow down as many people as possible.

I'd be very interested in the hotel surveillance footage in the days leading up to this. You know they have cameras everywhere.
Maybe he just wanted to throw us all a curve ball. "Screw it. I'm 64. They'll never see this coming!"
