As long as we execute the plays we can win out without airing it out. What killed us in clemson game last year was not passing or lack of it, it was our inability to run and eat clock late due to Bo going out. Run and defense wins titles. Yes you have to have air attack, but you do not have to pass 50 times to win, just enough to make first downs. Short passes and let receivers make the yards after the catch. We have the players to use a short pass game to gain big yards. Once in the open field our backs and receivers seem pretty good at gaining yards.

Chicken and the egg. We ran effectively in the first half, they sold out to stop the run, Hurts did not hit enough makeable passes to keep drives going thus forcing them to respect the pass more. To be fair, Ridley and Stewart had some drops too. All around bad day from the passing game. There are 2 or 3 2nd/3rd down throws in the 4th quarter that were makeable throws that likely would've salted enough time off that they couldn't mount a drive after Hurts ran it in to go up. At least it wouldn't have probably saved our defense about 15-20 snaps and given them more energy to finish the game.

Furthermore, we didn't really run it that much when Bo went down because we couldn't sustain drives...way too many 3 and outs in the 2nd half. Only 14 points in the first half but far more 6-8 play possessions where 3 minutes or more came off the clock.

Going to just copy what I posted in another thread. Play selection wasn't necessarily the problem. Time was.

In the first 14 games of the season, Alabama averaged taking 26.6 seconds per play. Against Clemson, it averaged 23.0 seconds per play. Only twice (Kentucky at 23.8 and Mississippi State 22.8) was Alabama under 24 seconds per play.

Alabama had 34 rush attempts against Clemson. During the other 14 games, Alabama averaged 43.2 rush attempts. Arkansas (34) and MSU (31) were the only games at or below the total from Clemson.

We doubled the 14 game average (9.6) of incomplete passes against Clemson (18). That's probably the biggest reason for the time difference.

Sark was quick to call the play into Jalen and not change it, though. Lane would wait until about 10-15 seconds left on the play clock before deciding what to run, which led to Jalen and the offense rushing. Sark just called a play the moment the guys lined up.

You are correct with one comment, though. We ran the ball 7 times after Bo's injury while passing the ball 12 times.
