Thanks. This was 14 years ago. 2 weeks in Tanzania/Zanzibar in mid-June. I took close to 7,000 pictures, 14 hours of video & wrote a 50 page journal detailing observations and details of the trip. About 1000 of the photos were good enough that I turned them into a couple of coffee table books along with parts of the journal. I have about 20 more pics that I'm going to upload over the coming days. The pictures prior to the Africa trip were all taken on a Nikon N90 SLR. I had tens of rolls that we had to get processed after each trip (in 2000-2002).
I bought a nice Nikon D70 DSLR, a 4gb flash drive (which was like $300 14 years ago!), a "wolfpack" device that I offloaded files into so that I could take more pictures each day, & a handheld Canon video recorder. Had to recharge the multiple sets of batteries for the camera & wolfpack each day during the 2 hours of electricity we had available in the evening. It was expensive to get this technology back then & a technological challenge but I'm grateful that I spent the money so that I have these memories !
If you can do it, I would encourage everyone to experience it. Just amazing.
Thanks for the background info on your fantastic photos, Brett. Much respect to you for going the extra mile to bring back home with you a nice pictorial documentation along with your written commentary, which I'm sure is very interesting.
I have always loved taking photos but never invested heavily into equipment, although I still have some old SLR cameras and various lenses and other stuff that hasn't been touched since digital technology became popular - which for me was around '98. I have gone through a bunch of inexpensive digital point and shoots since then of various brands.
But what your post and photos have provided for me is inspiration to look into stepping up my game - so thank you for that.
As for travel - Africa would be very cool - but what I had in mind was South Africa including the Durban area, where the waves are very good, even though they also have a fair share of Great Whites. If I get there one day - I don't see why I couldn't also include a few excursions, shall we say, into the wilds.
I've already decided to hang tight until all my furballs are across rainbow bridge before making any travel plans. They are all seniors now so we're probably not talking any great length of time, unfortunately. I've left them behind a couple times but it sucked because I missed them so much and felt I was abandoning them. One time I took my youngest to a kennel and the next morning I went back and picked her up and canceled the trip!
Anyhoo - again thanks for your beautiful photos, for all you do for our forum, and for being such a good guy.
