Thanks Bazza. For the 5 days we were in the Serengeti, we had a personal driver. He drove us all over the place. One day to the north, next to the west, etc. He knew where to see everything and where to go that other vehicles would not be. Most of the time we were the only people within miles.Brett - amazing pics - thank you once again and please keep 'em coming!
This one here especially is magnificent. Please tell us how you were able to get this close up, other than just using a telephoto lens. Thanks!
Thanks for the back story - very cool! Having the right guide made all the difference, apparently! Thanks Bazza. For the 5 days we were in the Serengeti, we had a personal driver. This lion was in the savanna on a little rise. The dirt road was cutout a couple feet below the savanna. As we drove by, the lion never moved. The driver stopped, my heart pounded, I took the shot, and we kept going.
I used 3 lenses including a 70-300mm which I used to take this. EXIF data says it was at 145mm so it probably wasn't literally within "reach" but it wasn't very far away (10 feet maybe?). It could have pounced on us in one move if it had wanted. Thus the heart pounding!
We should put together a "TideFans Guide to the World" with pictures and descriptions of all the places everyone has been
