If there is life out there, I hope Voyager finds it. They may have no idea what it is or understand whatever is written on it, but it would be cool for it to end its mission successfully.

It'll be worn down to "V...ger" by then...If there is life out there, I hope Voyager finds it. They may have no idea what it is or understand whatever is written on it, but it would be cool for it to end its mission successfully.

After sending the commands on Tuesday, it took 19 hours and 35 minutes for the signal to reach Voyager. Then, the Earth-bound spacecraft team had to wait another 19 hours and 35 minutes to see if the spacecraft responded. It did. After nearly four decades of dormancy, the Aerojet Rocketdyne manufactured thrusters fired perfectly.
It will be a bit of a wait. The robotic spacecraft is streaking toward an encounter with a star called AC +79 3888, which lies 17.6 light-years from Earth. Voyager's on its way to a close approach with it in about 40,000 years," Voyager project manager Suzanne Dodd, of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif., told reporters Thursday.
That's what's always bothered me about wishing for interstellar communication. Not only do conditions have to be mutually favorable, they must be simultaneous. The odds against that are, well, astronomic...I was curious what the next encounter might be.
