For those who don't know the names of Virginia state politicians, the Democrat won by a single vote. The Virginia House is now split 50-50.

Republican wins drawing to decide Virginia House race, keeping GOP in charge

Democrats celebrated victory after a December recount, in which Simonds appeared to defeat Republican incumbent David Yancey by a single vote, upsetting the GOP’s long-held majority and leaving the House evenly split between the two parties.

Yet Yancey’s campaign contested Simonds’ lead of 11,608 to 11,607, arguing that one ballot was improperly counted. A panel of election judges then ruled that the questionable ballot should be counted in favor of Yancey and the tied race should be decided by lottery.

Sometimes it matters. Most times it doesn't.

Tennessee presidential elections since 2000:
2000: R = 51.2%, D = 47.3%
2004: R = 56.8%, D = 42.5%
2008: R = 56.9%, D = 41.8%
2012: R = 59.5%, D = 39.0%
2016: R = 60.7%, D = 34.7%

Seems it was snafu'd from the get go...per MSN article:

Simonds appeared to have lost the November election by 10 votes, but on Dec. 19, she won a recount by a single vote. The next day, a three-judge panel in Newport News declared a tie based on a previously uncounted vote for Yancey.
