Question: Anyone heard about the size of fanbases at the Sugar bowl?

Some where out there
I think other fan bases have gotten more excited upon reaching a championship game or playoff, we've come to expect it at Bama and unfortunately it can be taken for granted. I'm not saying that should happen but it just seems we've been outnumbered in recent appearances. Ive heard this from countless fans who said they went to the first couple but then just decided to stay home . Hopefully we will be well represented as a fanbase Monday. I would love to go if I could. RTR

They hadn’t played for a title in a while?
And this is the point. We way outnumbered Miami in 1989 ( who was effectively playing for a championship that night) after we lost to Auburn that year. Clemson, Ohio State, Georgia, and Oklahoma will outnumber us because they haven’t Had a 11 year stretch of having to book flights, book hotels, and purchase football tickets to places like New Orleans, Pasadena, Tampa Bay,Miami, Arizona, and Atlanta every single year. It has little to do with an embarrassing loss on the resume

TOSU has hundreds of thousands more alumni maybe? They hadn’t played for a title in a while?
All true, but no one that I know thought that we could win that game. The Buckeye nation was stunned when we pulled it off.

i think its as simple as years of road trips. You try to make as many as possible but at some point you reach a limit. it's expensive when you factor in lodging. I have gotten to where i choose my trips. I wont be at the Sugar but if we make it, i'll be in Atlanta for the 2nd time this year. The only reason i wont be in New Orleans is because of the possible 2 trips to Atlanta to go along with the opening game next season in Orlando

This is just another game for a lot of fans. This is getting so common it has lost some of it's specialness.:biggrin2:
In that case, can my Buckeyes get in next year? I mean, I don't want this to get stale for you guys.

We will be leaving out in a couple of hours headed that way. Lots of fans are prolly doing the same.
Home state Clemson fans don't have the luxury of this option.

These post season games are expensive, it's hard to go year after year. I'm not aware of anyone in my circle of hard core fans who've been every year.

I live in Gulfport and I've started seeing quite a few cars representing Clemson at restaurants and on the interstate. But there are a lot of baja fans that live in this area that will travel to NOLA the day of the game. I know of a couple of groups that are taking vans over and then coming back immediately after the game. I think a number of people will stay at casinos and shuttle over as well. I'd be surprised if Bama isn't represented well.

There’s definitely an enthusiasim gap between the two fan bases—and I think it will manifest itself in NOLA. Honestly, I think a lot of Bama fans are still upset about the iron bowl( I know I sure am) and just cannot understand how we we were not more prepared for that game and it has simply put a damper on the end of the season. Others I think have just concluded that we were exposed late in the season and we were never as good as they originally thought, so why invest so much emotionally (and financially)in the post season.

Either way, we are simply a spoiled fan base.
I think this covers all the bases about current feelings and emotions. We were spoiled before Saban got to Tuscaloosa; now, we are spoiled little brats. hahaha Not to mention, we have now been traveling to a big out of conference showdown at the beginning of the year and playing for championships and in big bowls for a decade. Many fans are probably traveled out or just simply do not have a lot of spare traveling change lying around. Clemson has just raised their level from good to great for three years now. They have the enthusiasm of youth, and I also think they are the new kid on the block who is picking up a lot of new/bandwagon fans.

About a week ago, Fox 6 in BHam, did a story talking about ticket availability to the Sugar Bowl. They talked to ticket brokers who said there were plenty of tickets left at that time, and you could pick up tickets for as little as $180/ea (as usual the tickets were “sold out” through official outlets).

The way they were talking, it was more of a lack of Clemson fans buying. They attributed it to a possible fatigue of a third rematch against Bama, and went on to talk about how loyal Bama fans were and how well they travel.

TIFWIW, but I figure most Bama fans will be rolling in today!

We really need to treat the Iron Bowl like any other game -- let the Barn enjoy it -- it's all they have 95% of seasons. I find it ridiculous and weak that we as a fanbase would be so butt-hurt for more than a week after a loss. Especially when Auburn didn't even make it into the playoffs. To me that's a sign of being dysfunctional.

ETA: I seriously hope that our players plan to win this game for them and not just for the fanbase when most of us don't deserve it.

Don't know about ticket sales, but Mrs. Basket Case and I got to New Orleans on Saturday.

We felt way outnumbered that day. Yesterday, more Alabama fans started coming in. Still the minority, but not like Saturday.

Game day today, and we're just getting out. It's nasty cold, even though the sun is out. I'll let you know how it looks later today.
