Re: 2018 midterm elections catch-all thread

https://www.cnbc.com/2018/07/18/us-weekly-jobless-claims-july-14-2018.html

The number of Americans filing for unemployment benefits unexpectedly fell last week, hitting its lowest level in more than 48 1/2 years, as the labor market continues to strengthen.

Other data on Thursday showed manufacturing activity in the mid-Atlantic region accelerated in July, driven by a surge in new orders received by factories. But manufacturers reported paying more for inputs.

They were less upbeat about business conditions and capital expenditures over the next six months, a sign that import tariffs were starting to hurt business sentiment.

Initial claims for state unemployment benefits dropped 8,000 to a seasonally adjusted 207,000 for the week ended July 14, the lowest reading since early December 1969, the Labor Department said.
The good and the bad from the labor report....

Breaking: approval rating drops when you disagree with your political party on minor issues like who should be president.
Yknow, you say that....yet several Republicans disagreed with Trump being President, but it didn't cause theirs to tumble. Perhaps Republicans are more forgiving..... who knows.

Or just maybe circumstances were different...

Lets also not pretend that politicians that were anti Trump received no blow back. They also almost all have back tracked or just joined his team.

Martha Roby says hi. Everyone that has criticized Trump and then fallen in line for fear of backlash says hi.

This statement isn't even remotely true.

Apparently not as obvious as you thought..... lol, but I do admire that you threw him a life preserver.....he just didn't want to catch it.
Yeah, it was pretty obvious. You posted a tweet from Saavedra. 92 replied, including the Saavedra tweet, and said (more or less), "No one in the Democratic party cares what this douchebag says." But hey, you do you.
Also - Saavedra's tweet doesn't negate the video of what she said.....it wasn't his opinion, it was hers.
And? OMG, a 24 year-old political neophyte gets flustered!!

That's not what I've heard......apparently there's a lot of concern that she's too far left, whatever that means.
there are a lot of folks telling folks that there is a lot of concern that she's too far left. that's what concern trolls do. maybe she is, maybe she isn't. that's up to her district to decide, and apparently they liked her better than crowley.

that still has nothing to do with lieberman's opinion being valued within the democratic Party.

What's your beef with Joe? Because he hated on Obama? Or because of something else?

It's like too much candy? Or too much money? How can you have too much "left"?

Nunes used political dollars for $15K in Celtics tickets, winery tours and Vegas trips

WASHINGTON
Rep. Devin Nunes used political donations to pay for nearly $15,000 in tickets to Boston Celtics basketball games as well as winery tours and lavish trips to Las Vegas, according to reports from the Federal Election Commission and two nonpartisan watchdog groups.

Nunes, R-Calif., has reportedly been a Celtics fan since high school, though he grew up in Tulare, California. He used the money from his political action committee last year on three occasions to buy tickets.

His PAC also spent about $42,741 since 2013 on catering, site rentals, hotels and meals in Las Vegas. The most recent instance was March 9, when the PAC spent $7,229 at seven different restaurants and hotels in Las Vegas.
But what about the young socialist!?!?!!?!!

Re: 2018 midterm elections catch-all thread

she didn't really mean "Occupation of Palestine"?
yes, she did. and it will matter until all of the folks that now seem to be very interested in a political neophyte in a very liberal new york city congressional district will find some other improper word usage to criticize her on to keep the attention. maybe bernie will instruct her on the correct terminology she is allowed to use.

Palestinian territories

Palestinian territories and occupied Palestinian territories (OPT or oPt) are terms often used to describe the West Bank (including East Jerusalem) and the Gaza Strip, which are occupied or otherwise under the control of Israel.[7][8][9] Israeli governments have maintained that the area involved is within territorial dispute.[10][11] The extent of the territories, while subject to future negotiations, have frequently been defined by the Green Line.

The term "Palestinian Territory, Occupied" was used by the United Nations (UN) and other international organizations between 1998 to 2013 in order to refer to areas controlled by the Palestinian National Authority. In December 2012, UN Secretariat communications replaced this by the term State of Palestine.[12] The ISO adopted the name change in 2013.[13] But, as of August 2015, the UN Security Council continues to treat Palestine as a non-sovereign entity;[14] this prevents its admission to UN General Assembly membership.[15]

the pc patrols are trying to police her language.
We can’t have people like her getting in and rubbing elbows with the NAMBLA GOP members. It would be unseemly.

So, you are saying she wasn't referring to Israel?

Palestinian Territory and Palestine aren't the same thing.....now are they?

Re: 2018 midterm elections catch-all thread

Pretty in depth interview with Tabitha Isner-

https://www.salon.com/2018/07/22/ex...r-campaign-for-congress-women-dont-shut-down/

When Jeff Sessions vacated his Alabama Senate seat to become President Donald Trump's attorney general, it seemed like an odds-on bet that another Republican would succeed him in representing the solidly-red state on Capitol Hill. By year's end, an insurgent candidate Doug Jones emerged victorious over Judge Roy Moore. It was the first the Yellowhammer State elected a Democrat to the Senate in 25 years.

Now, Tabitha Isner, an ordained minister turned Democratic candidate is rapidly gaining momentum in what is becoming a highly-contested battleground in Alabama’s 2nd congressional district, which includes the city of Montgomery. The race is flying under the radar, as the Cook Report doesn’t even have it listed as a competitive contest – fitting to Isner’s style of approaching challenges undaunted.
