Just a bean counter here with a couple of summary notes: Along with the 5 NCs and 6 appearances in the NC game and 7 appearances in the playoff (both 2 and 4 team), the most remarkable feat, IMO, is the record against the top competition. Of course Bama also did not lose to an unranked opponent. There have been other programs who had a bit better overall winning % over 9 seasons, but likely none have been close to the number of games and wins over top competition. (Note too, that once you establish a high % it is very difficult to raise it. E.g., the SEC record is 63-9 which is 87.5%, the overall reg season record is 97-9, which is 91.5%; you can see that after you win your 63rd game, you have to win 34 in a row to increase that % 4 points from 87.5-91.5.) The record against top competition when it matters the most, i.e., SEC champ game and playoffs, is off of the charts at 13-2, 86.7%.
Bama has played in seven AP 1 vs 2 matchups with a 5-2 record, no one else had played in more than 2, no one else has won more than one such matchup. (There have only been 51 in history - 1936 forward - and Bama has played in the most: 11, 21.5% and won the most: 7., ND is 2nd at 10 appearances and 5 wins and 2 ties, OU is 3rd at 8 and 1, yes OU is 1-7.)
