Some where out there
Haven’t seen/heard about Burns. Dunbar going to the pros is expected and not so sure he isn’t getting a nudge from Saban. Joe Pannunzio is expected to move back to an off field role. If so 3 left to hire, WR, TE, DL.

So far:

OC/QB: Locksley
RB: Burns
OL: Key
ST: Banks
ILB: Pete
OLB: Tosh
DB: Scott
See post above but add Gattis to that for wr/co OC....right now there may still be more changes/hires taking shape so we may not see a complete staff just yet.

So now with all this news coming in
What’s the coaching lineup looking like now

I really like the addition of Gattis, especially with his expertise with the passing game.

Like some, I'm just not overwhelmed by the apparent decision of Locks to playcaller. I'm assuming with Gattis as a co-OC, Locks will be the primary play caller like last year Daboll (as co-oc was the primary play caller).

To be clear, I'm a little mystified we didn't have more top candidates who were rumored for the job. Only other one we heard about was Long from ND. You'd think top OCs would be lining up to want the keys to our offensive sports car. Maybe it's just me, but I'd love to see us have an OC that could turn us into an offense that nobody could outscore even without a great defense. I would have loved to get the guy from Okie State...but I freely admit I'm just talking like a fan.

I've thought about this. My opinion is that after the drama with Kiffin , the one game stint of Sark and the one year stay of Daboll, CNS decided to stay with someone he was just comfortable with. I think if he went searching, he would have found some very reputable names. Having said that, I'm not sure he exactly went searching that extensively, feeling very comfortable with what he had or at least as a contingency . I've heard there was discussion with Long but there were details that were not worked out, I can't speak definitively to that. I think the decision was that at least in his mind there were many more pros to retaining and promoting Locksley than cons.

I mean no disrespect to our older coaches, who continue to be vital to the team, but recruiting has really turned into a young coaches game. Losing Smart, Pruitt, Ansley and Napier has hurt us. Also with the young staffs at UGA, UF and now UT CNS had to make changes in order to keep up with times. Also as many have said, new blood, new ideas and a recruiting reset.

Fantastic moves so far...but I'm not sure we should have expected anything differently. I believe this direction is in response to UGA's increased presence in recruiting and man...what an answer. I think the 2019 and 2020 classes are going to be ridiculous.

Golding - 2005
Gattis - 2006
Scott - 2007

Three of Alabama's recent hires have only been out of college for 11-13 years. That's crazy.

I think you have to walk a fine line to not go too far with the youth movement that you lose the experience and wisdom that comes with "older" coaches.

I believe you are correct that with most of these hires it seems CNS is hiring a recruiter first.

It's no secret we out "athlete/player" most teams and it's especially true that when we face better teams their first 11 match up with ours very often, but our depth/backups are almost always better than theirs.

Recruiting is the lifeblood of the program and I think CNS knows how to organize his staff to get good coaching from great recruiters.

Bingo - no other team in the country could have absorbed the injuries Bama had this year and still won the NC. When you have sick 4* and 5* guys sitting all over the bench, the long season becomes far more manageable.

I was under the impression that Banks coached STs and TEs at TAMU.
Adding the 10th on field coach allows us to finally have a ST coach who actually knows what he is doing with kickers. aTm’s punter, Shane Tripucka is best friends with a good friends son. Shane has nothing but great things to say about about our new ST coach. Called him the best coach he has ever had. (Including the paid specialty coaches he had worked with on his own.) Several Aggie players/families tweeted letting him go was Jimbo’s first mistake. “ST is the only thing we didn’t suck at”.....

And for CUDA... Shane is from Allen, TX and won a bunch of State Titles. (Was it 4???)

While Saban is hiring younger guys that seem to be solid recruiters, they also do seem to have good resumes or come with high recommendation from people Saban trusts.

Average age of the four new hires Golding, Banks, Scott, Gattis - 35. Golding a coaches son and DC the past 4 years - Banks (Grandpa of the group at 44) and Gattis are recruiting specialists but solid position coaches...yea, I believe an infusion of talent, new ideas and youth are a theme but I know Coach will balance everything with the steady hand of the older, wise coaches such as himself to train these guys in the PROCESS.

A little off topic, but this hire may be one of CNS's biggest ones. Of all our positions, arguably place kicking has been such a weakness that me and my Bama buddies laugh each year at how much we've stunk at it all the while the rest of the positions we have the best players but at place kicker we've been near the bottom. So hiring Banks is BIG!

I am super SUPER stoked about Gattis because I've been impressed with their WRs the last two years. He is allegedly a great recruiter and I think he might be one of the best WR coaches in the country.

Insiders were not wrong about Saban burning the whole staff down and remaking it younger and maybe even more talented.
