I didn't realize Daboll was a grad assistant for Saban at MSU and Saban recommended him to Belichick.
Also Josh McDaniels.

Great article! I heard an interview with the writer on the radio today and was intrigued to read it. I really enjoyed learning even more about their friendship.
Fascinating read. A couple of points I found interesting-
1) The Daboll hire wasn’t as much out of left field as I thought. I knew there was a connection with Belichick, Daboll, and Saban but didn’t realize it was as strong as the article revealed.
2) I liked hearing Jason Taylor’s estimation of Saban. Taylor was right. If Brees goes to Miami I think he gets a least a conference championship ring. It would’ve been difficult though. The AFC in that era (05-15) was very tough and pretty much dominated the NFC.
3) I’m reminded that even those at the top of their respective positions look to learn and improve.
