Re: Possible grad transfer: Temple kicker Austin Jones

In Saban’s defense he had a really good kicker in Peneiro all but signed until very late. He was our four year solution before he bolted for the Swamp. Not sure why we couldn’t find one this year but my guess was due to the exceptionally small numbers for this class and specific needs that we might do preferred walk-on or go the grad transfer route if Bulovas hadn’t secured the spot. Looks like maybe door [emoji376] #2. Remember though these specialists can improve a lot between a Spring and Fall campaign.

Probably overreacting. We have indeed had some good kickers through the years, but they`ve seemed inconsistent during the CNS years. Just feels like other schools ( particularly the barn ) have them fall out of the sky while we struggle.

Last year there was the very late flip of the kid from Arizona, which also left us scrambling.

I think our new ST coach will make a HUGE difference in the coming years.

Re: Possible grad transfer: Temple kicker Austin Jones

With all of Bama's kicking woes under Saban, they've only lost 2 games because of it: LSU '11, AU '13. Those were high profile games - but when does Alabama not play a high profile game? If they lose, it's a "game of the century". You could make a case for OM '14, but those were 46 and 51 yarders and OM missed a 33 yarder. OM won by 6.

Actually, Tiffin, Shelley, Foster, Griffith and AP had decent stats, especially Shelley, but Foster and AP had failures at crunch time. Foster was 10-12 until the AU game. AP was 13-14 from 40 yds in until UGA and he hit his previous 2 before his last kick - and some wonder why Saban used him?

Bama has probably given more scholarships to kickers than most programs. I don't know that, it just seems that way :).

I'd up my REC dues if they would get the NCAA to outlaw FGs.

I guess I am more fearful that we spent a scholarship on a guy who will never kick at Bama.

Who says he'll never kick at Bama?

He's talking about Bulovas but its too early to give up hope on him. He will have a top notch ST coach for an entire year...hopefully that can right his ship because he certainly has talent.

I didn't say he wouldn't, I said I was afraid he wouldn't. There is a distinct difference. :)

I know who he was talking about, and I agree. It's too early to give up on Bulovas.

Playing semantics, my friend...
