It's legal because you're consenting on the front end for them to "borrow" your CPU. The main problem is that people who consent have no idea that they're committing to having their computer slowed to a crawl. Some CPUs could even overheat and get damaged...how is this even remotely legal
it seems like that stuff like this shouldn't really count as consent. It's legal because you're consenting on the front end for them to "borrow" your CPU. It's in black and white. Personally, if I see something there irresistible, I intend to disable my ad blocker temporarily...it seems like that stuff like this shouldn't really count as consent.
yeah, it just seems like they should have some obligation to let folks know what it is they are consenting to before their computer crashes and/or burnsIt's in black and white. Personally, if I see something there irresistible, I intend to disable my ad blocker temporarily...
LOL......Dear Salon. Never in a million years. Goodbye.
This, however, is going to seriously annoy readers and make their site objectively suck.Naked Security ran a few tests and the phrase “uses more of your resources” should be understood to mean a pretty constant 99% CPU load, at which point page performance slows to a crawl.
Their language is very cagey. They seem to say they'll just use enough to not interfere with other usage. As someone posted above, field tests seem to show they're using 99%, which will have consequences...yeah, it just seems like they should have some obligation to let folks know what it is they are consenting to before their computer crashes and/or burns
