ULA has been fantastically consistent in their launches - I think they've had something like 100 successful launches now - but they're the perfect example of two large, old companies that are accustomed to working for government dollars without competition.

Can they come up with something quickly enough to respond to SpaceX's success (and pricing)? I don't know, I have my doubts - that it's taken them this long to even float an idea makes me think they believed SpaceX would fail and decided not to worry about them. Now they're playing catch-up, so we'll see.

Regardless, competition will bring a continued downward trend in pricing for both LEO and GSO/GEO launches, and this is a good thing for everyone.
