Temple’s town hall about its new proposed football stadium got off to an inauspicious start. Hell, the start was so bad that it got canceled not long after the meeting began. Per the report, Englert was subsequently escorted out of the meeting by security.

They could pull a UAB and cancel football. Then build and reinstate. Simple.

PS. When UAB canceled football I wondered whether or not to delete UAB (and their years of spreadsheet data) from my computer databases. After a couple of weeks I decided they REALLY were going to cancel football. And then, you guessed it, they said "OOPS. WE DON'T HAVE A CLUE WHAT WE ARE DOING BUT IT IS ALL THE UNIVERSTIY OF ALABAMA'S FAULT. I decided I would ingore UAB in the future and would have except I need to incude them in my pick em stats for accuracy.

Anyway, Temple tried to join the Big 12 last year and I'll bet the Big 12 is thinking "we dodged a bullit with UAB Jr.

Temple does not need a stadium, nor do they have room to build a stadium, but their endowment is growing and they have a very healthy football program. In other words, this is in no way similar to what happened at UAB.

Residents are upset because Temple wants to build this stadium in an place that is currently a large recreational area (a large park with fields for many sports for the school and community). If the stadium is built, the entire community loses this area with nothing like it nearby. Add the lack of sufficient parking and the horrible traffic and you destroy the local community.

Temple just needs to keep playing at Lincoln Financial Field.

The one way this is UAB jr is the fact that Temple is totally out of touch with the community. That is UAB. That is Temple.

Maybe, but if Temple had suggested a stadium someplace that made sense everyone would have supported it. This was not about lack of support for a stadium. This was only about where they wanted to build it.

Idk all the details of this but I lived in Philly for a few years and building Temple a stadium seems like one of the worst ideas ever. That area of Philly doesn't need a stadium.

Did Temple ever have it's own on-campus stadium? A lot of these schools did and over the years, they fell into disrepair.

Pitt had theirs, but they now play at Heinz Field. Tulane had theirs, which also hosted the Sugar Bowl for years as well as Super Bowls. Tulane moved into the Louisiana Superdome, but they do now have an on-campus stadium.

It looks like they did - moved to Veterans Stadium in 1978: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temple_Stadium

There’s nothing wrong with them playing at LFF. It’s a nice half of a mile or so walk from the subway station [emoji38] for those who chose to take the train to the game.

Hah, they could build a new Dr. William Cosby Stadium across the river in Camden, and let their fans experience riverfront urban redevelopment. Perfect place for it, though I may be jumping the gun if Camden's still under martial law as ordered by Chris Christie's predecessor. Speaking of the river, the Delaware River, the feasibility study on a new stadium for the Temple Owls is pretty much locked, loaded and aired in all its glorious summation as follows

PS I do feel that the Divine Lorraine Hotel built in all its grandeur by the great Father Divine and bordering Temple's Broad Street campus, would be a fitting venue for future SEC Media Days once the Owls come into the conference as a reciprocative gesture for the B1G reaching out to and taking in Rut.

It probably stinks to play in an NFL stadium that is 2/3 empty every week but it makes no sense to build another stadium.

Every crappy FBS program blames their lack of attendance on the stadium. Can anyone think of a crappy non-power 5 FBS team that actually has good attendance? I can't...

Playing in a 2/3 full Lincoln Financial Field is better than playing in a 1/4 full Legion Field. I can understand the desire to build on campus considering they are paying a million bucks to rent LFF. Maybe they could work out a deal with U of Penn to use Franklin Field which is closer to Temple.

I'm pretty sure Temple is running up against a sizable contingent of folks who are worn out by the lack of good city planning.

Philly is a one bustling, busy city with far too few calm recreational areas to go and relax. So, if you're talking about taking one of the few recreational areas away from the public, yeah, you're going to get thrown out of town, just as you should. Philly should take New York City's lead from Central Park and redesign the center with a real park for people to go and relax, ride a bike, take a walk, etc.

I think that is exactly the problem.

And to mdb-tpet, some of the family reunions within the capacious "confines" of Fairmount Park are known to outdraw Temple's home attendance. As for the area needing an enema, neighboring Brewerytown and Ortlieb Brewing Company have taken care of that organically speaking for the last 150 years...
