Wow, ouch...

"It doesn't seem fair to me that the only thing standing in the way of Coach Freeze making $5 million a year at another school was the discovery that he wasn't the trustworthy, straight-laced role model that he claimed to be," Patterson states.

Freeze resigned in July after it came to light he had called a Tampa, Florida, escort service.

Patterson's case is based on what his camp says are conflicting statements by Ole Miss. The school has denied making misleading statements to recruits in January 2016 at the same time an NCAA Notice of Allegations detailed wrongdoing in the program.

Interesting. I have a feeling that anyone who get the media on their side (about any thing) will win because of public opinion. What happened to "buyer beware, where there is smoke there is fire" and all that?

I am not saying he shouldn't be allowed to transfer but I do wonder if a recruit bears any responsibility at all for their decisions. All these other schools were recruiting you and YOU CHOSE this one. I mean, the COACH PROMISED ME I WOULD START and I want to leave because I am not starting.

I get why he left Ole Miss but still think he should sit out a year. The NCAA needs to clamp down on transfers or football will end up just like basketball.

Patterson's beef should be with the NCAA. They should have allowed current UM players the ability to transfer without stipulations as part of the punishment of UM.

Let them all play this fall or let them all sit for a year, I do not care.

I disagree. The players were a part of this. How could they not know what might be coming when they knew that they were getting paid?

This type of NCAA violation cannot take place without the active participation of the players. Anyone here believe that Patterson wasn't getting paid? He won't admit that he got paid because it would end his college career. Ole Miss won't point it out because they would get further hammered by the NCAA.

This whole thing is like two thugs caught robbing a bank and each points the finger at the other.

Shea had no way of knowing. It's not like he had a family member on staff. Oh, wait...

From the article...

Patterson's appeal is being handled by NCAA case manager Jerry Vaughn, the associate director of academic and membership affairs.

According to a LinkedIn page attributed to a Jerry L. Vaughn Jr., NCAA academic and membership affairs member, he is a former shift leader at Pizza Hut who came to the NCAA in 2013 after being an athletic compliance intern at Daemen College.

Vaughn will not have a direct hand in deciding the case.
You can't make this stuff up.

Where ever there's BBQ, Bourbon & Football
Now maybe Patterson and his family knows what Calvary Highschool in Shreveport felt like when they decided (right before the season started) to transfer to IMG Academy and leave that entire football team scrambling to find a quarterback. I have zero sympathy for Patterson and his "folks".

What would you say if I told you the NCAA 5¢ & Dime had hired him in hopes of a sponsorship deal with Pizza Hut, for whom Hugh Freeze will be working off his show-cause sentence this fall by community service of local delivery within a 10-mile radius that won't affect his ankle-monitor or cell transmission capabilities...

Bingo.

And at the risk of ruffling any feathers, I'm just glad neither Mr. Patterson nore Mr. Freeze will be at UA next fall......Or (I hope) ever.......

Did I read that Patterson thinks Hairball is a man of integrity, trustworthy, etc?

Huh?

Wish i had a load of snake oil to sell this guy.

At the close of last season, both Patterson and A.J. Brown pleaded with the Ole Miss A.D. to keep Matt Luke or else they were going to transfer.

I think that fact that a gutsy juco transfer from Hawaii (Jordan Ta'amu) lit it up for the Rebels in Patterson's absence had a lot more to do with his wanting to transfer.

From what I could tell from Patterson's playing time, he wanted to be the 2nd coming of Johnny Manziel. Well, he's succeeded....in some of Johnny Football's qualities. Just not on the field.

I LOLed at the guy being a former shift manager at Pizza Hut -- but I have to assume that was a college job 20 years ago or something right? It's almost too funny.

Seems to be endemic of modern big-time college sports. Ironically, the FBI is going after BASKETBALL at this point, when the 500 lb gorilla in the room is football.

I believe that nearly every big-time program is part of this hypocrisy.
